I just picked up a complete front end off a CBR600 for 250$. I wanted a cleaner set of controls and a little beefier tire on the front to match the back. I checked on the ALL Balls Racing site and it will go on without any issues... My question is I want to keep the spoke wheel. The CBR front was I believe 16 the stock 750 wheel is 19. Any ideas? I know we have a lot of people that swapped there forks?
Thanks for reading and I appreciate the help.
What year is the CBR front end? The All Balls site only compares bearings, the steering stems may be different lengths which means you'd have to get the CB stem into the CBR bottom triple. I'm not saying that's the case, but don't be surprised.
Not to be a Negative Nelly, but there will be issues. Seemingly simple things like ignition switches or steering stops can make a man batty.
Can I keep my 750 hub and just respoke it to a wider rim?
Yes, but how are you going to mate the CB hub to the CBR axle? Are the axles the same diameter? If not you'll need to see if you can get wheel bearings that are the correct outer diameter for a CB hub and correct inner diameter for the CBR axle (if they exist). And you'll need custom spacers.
If you keep the CB hub, are you going to keep the CB brake rotor and caliper? You'll have to find a way to mount the caliper on the CBR forks. It may be possible to use the a CBR caliper on the CB rotor, but that will probably need a custom caliper hanger. You should probably use the CB master cylinder as well, since the CBR MC was designed for dual discs and would be rock-hard with a single disc setup.
If you want to use the CBR brakes, you'll have to find a way to mount them on the CB hub (IIRC, early CBR600 rotors didn't have carriers, they bolted directly to the wheel).
You'll need to make sure the wheel and rim will fit under the CBR fender or figure out how to move the fender.
Decide on the hardware configuration you want and then puzzle out how to get it all together. Chances are somebody here has done it, or something like it, and can point out the pitfalls before you get to them.
Good luck
