Head Buffeting with a Windsheild

I bought a 15” Spitfire Viper windshield since the wind was beating the hell out of me on long runs.
I mounted it according to instructions and headed out. I have a quiet rod with long straightaways
a few blocks from the house. When I hit around 50mph my head was buffeted enough to make my vision blurry.  It was not the windshield that vibrated it was my head.
I changed the angle of the shield, the height, with the same results. The only thing that helped was to grab the top of the shield and bend it down. Anybody have experience with windshields and this problem. I am only 5’ 8” so I am not sticking up way above the plastic.

Don't know if this will help but I would get head buffeting behind a shield and found that if I had the vents open on top of the helmet it would do this.  Closing the vents on the top of the helmet took care of a lot of it.

did you change your position on the bike
if that works you have to play with the windshield

Yes I tried different positions. Laying on the tank was good. Poking my head out the side past the shield was good also. If I stand up it is OK also. I adjusted the brackets to tip it back, forward, up down etc.

It happened to me just the same on the rental Road Glide with shorty windshield. It was worse when following other riders, better when leading or at some other speed....... like a jackhammer on my temples.

Do you have much room for adjusting the height?  I'm about the same height as you and the 17" windscreen I use on my 750 in the Winter is the perfect height.  The top edge sits below my line of sight, but it sends the air just over the top of my helmet.  If it were an inch or two lower I would have the same buffeting problem.

Mine is the National Cycle brand "Street Shield". 

I lucked out in that it came with one of the bikes I bought years ago, and it just happens to be the perfect size for my needs.  If I hadn't happened upon it I may have ended up spending a lot of money trying to find just the right one.
