750 rear hub on a 500

I have been frustrated not being able to find this answer on this forum.  Not that the info isn't here somewhere, just haven't found it yet.

I have a 500K1 I am going with a gl1000 front end with it's dual disc brakes.  Using the GL1000 front hub, I will be mounting new wider rims(18x3.5) on new custom length ss spokes.  On the rear I will be lacing on a 18x4 to a factory hub.   So as I am starting from scratch, and keeping my current stock front end both current wheel/tire/hubs combo intact, I need to aquire a new rear hub/brake assembly.

I have read that the 750 rear hub has more braking power.  Haven't seen any specks.

Could someone tell me whether an early 750 hub would fit on a 500K1, what the differences in spacing it(sprocket spacing difference?) diameter difference at the spokes?

It is only worthwhile to me if there is more braking potential in the 750 drum brake hub over the 500K1 drum brake hub.  The front end will provide substancially more braking power than the factory 500K1, so more in the rear to balance it would be great.  FWIW, I'd really rather not convert to rear discs, I like the look of the rear polished drums hubs.

 
I'm really stuck here for time.  Need to order the correct spokes for the new wheels!

I can't give you any info on whether or not the 750 hub has more power.  I have trouble grasping why that would be, but I can tell you that if you switch to a different hub from the one your 500 came with, you'll need to use the corresponding brake plate, and check your spacing.  Putting a later (77-78) 550 wheel on my '71 500/4 required using a later brake plate, and the 550 axle spacer as well.  I don't know if the 750 hub has the same dimensions as the 500/550, but I can say you need to some measuring to keep your bike tracking straight.

Why are you installing such wide rims? The stock rims are 1.85" front and rear. There is no reason to put a 4" rim on the back, the swing arm isn't wide enough to fit the tires that go with that size rim.

The same up front. Why 3.5"? Even with the wider trees from the GL front end, 2.5" should be plenty to install a wider front tire.

i have my doubts about a 4" rim fitting the back of a 500... im not staring at mine, but irrc there isnt much chain to tire clearence to begin with on the stock 1.whatever. actually i cant see a 4" rim working at all, with out some serious fabrication (swing arm, offset sprockets, odd size tires, the list goes on)

my 500's rear brake is more than sufficient. actually it works too well... im a skinny m.f. and i can lock up that back tire with ease. to the point that i only use it to actuate the brake light. Honestly i think the 750 hub will be more trouble than its worth.

Ive run a 750 wheel on the back of a 500 many many moons ago, sort of worked, but was young and ignorant at the time.

in short doable but lot of braking power on the rear is actually not a desirable thing. .

why would you want a 4" rim on a 500 beats me too
