Topic: Charge AGM battery inside

I live in a condo and have no secure place to charge my AGM battery other than in my unit. It's loft style, one big room, and I can't really leave the window open because I won't be able to sleep for all the noise. I've heard that you should charge lead acid batteries in a well ventilated area, as hydrogen and oxygen gas are given off. From my reading about AGM batteries, it sounds like these gases are recombined before leaving the battery, so the risk of explosion should be small. Am I right? Or am I going to gas myself with something else?

I wouldn't choose to do this if there was another way, but if living in a downtown core has taught just one lesson, it's that people will steal anything.

Well, the link below says that it won't release any hydrogen if it isn't overcharged. I have a good trickle charger with an automatic shutoff, so that shouldn't be a problem. I will let you know tomorrow whether or not I have exploded.

the problem are..if you are thartging in a battery box..hvere the gas not can escape aut..mine battery exploed..when i tok the loader of battery..the konnekted gas exploed..take alvays the battery aut of bike..if it sits im a closed box on bike..my battery vas an old normal accid open type..but gas are the same..no problems with load autside of bike..

I've charged my AGM batteries with a Battery Tender in my bedroom -- no problems. I probably wouldn't put it on my Sears 4-6 amp monster inside, but then again, I'd probably never put it on such a big charger anyway.

Put in the bathroom and turn on the exhaust fan.

Charged up over night in the main room. Bathroom would have been a good idea. In any case, it did not explode. SUCCESS.
