electric starter
« on: June 02, 2011, 08:57:05 PM »
My 1973 Honda CB500 has been having some problems with the electric starter.  Most days it starts fine but every now and then I will push the button and it sounds like the battery is dead but all lights are still operational. It does not matter if its a cold start or if i try to start it after a 20 minute ride around town its happened on both occasions.  Then when i go to kick start it after about 10 kicks it stubbornly turns over.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Yeah, be careful when you pull the coil apart, not much lead on one of the strands to the coil to the cover.
 Does it kick start?
Sounds like it could be a ground problem, too. Make sure the cables are clean and hooked up tight.

if it's your solenoid wonder why you need to kick start 10 times, especially when it's warm. your starter circuit (and ignition circuit) might be starved for current.
