My CB750 brat style build

So after a few years of kicking around the idea of building a CB I finally bit the bullet and did it. I picked up an over all decent running 1975 Honda CB750 and got to work.

The day I brought it home, not bad.


And then for some reason it EXPLODED!!!


Blasted some parts


Painted some parts


Safety first  ;) cutting up the seat pan to fit a small low truck roll banana type seat


Started to trim the frame and getting an idea of how the seat will fit


Bending up the weld in loop to finish off the frame


All welded up


FINALLY!!! after waiting for what seemed like forever the tires came and its back on the ground  8)





I'm pretty happy with the way its coming along so far, really digging the stance but the front will have to come down a bit. Still a bit of work to go, all comments and opinions are welcome.

whats up with the seat?is that done?that back rail looks nice!

Thanks, the tires are the vintage Firestones from Coker. There is still a bunch of stuff to get done the seat being one of them, it'll be something low and simple.

Pat, if you want your bike to handle reasonably well then forget those tyres, they may look good but they are crap on the road and dangerous in the wet, they track badly and do absolutely nothing for handling. I really wish guys would stop hacking up good bikes to make cafe's and brat style bikes, no wonder the prices of these bikes are going through the roof. There are plenty of basket cases that can be butchered. That bike was nice....

oh alright...yeah i agree that bike was super nice..i like the look of stock bikes..but i also like the look of cafe's..thats kinda what im doing with mine..but mine is a basket bike(well 2 basket bikes)

when the cafe thing dies out again,the big rage will be a fully stock bike...

Hey Rocket,
I value your opinion but I'm not building my bike to handle, its meant to be rough, raw, dirty and a handful to ride and handle. That being said IMO all of these old bikes handle like a wheel barrel for that I'll stick to my other modern bikes ;) If you have an original CB you should be thanking me for increasing its value  ;D

Pat, I got them for $400.00 with tubes and shipping to Canada I'm sure in the States there around $300.00 to $350.00. Like rocket said they are know to handle like ass but they sure do look bad ass.

Dig the bike man.  I'm not a purist by any means, but I would feel pretty bad tearing up a bike like that.  Kudos for diving in and going for it! Haha keep us posted, and welcome aboard

That would be a wheel barrow and actually they handle quite well, plenty of guys here race them, the only thing that stops me riding them as hard as my modern bikes is ground clearance,{ and lack of much tyre choice, thats why i use different wheels} they can still be ridden a lot harder than you think.. I am a bit anal with tyres, i always use the best tyres i can buy, one less thing that could contribute to a fall is one thing less to worry about.. ;)

Hate to say it, but I love the look of those tires as well (as you can see in the bike in my avatar)   They do handle bad, but not nearly as bad as I thought they would.  I put at least 1000 miles on them with no problems.  I should mention that it's a fair weather bike - only seen the rain once or twice.

Did you cut off the silencers off those exhaust pipes ??     Watch the clearance on that loop on the frame - those Firestones are pretty tall and look like they are going to hit that loop pretty easily.

Are you going to keep the original tins & side covers ?    I'm diggin' the black and blue - looks pretty mean.   Little bit of patina always looks good on the brat style.  I have a perfectly rusted tank that I'm saving for a similar build - everything else will be shiny and new.

 Hurry up and finish the seat, I'm dying to see the whole thing.

Ya I just chopped the pipes, the oem ones where pretty rusted out. As for the loop I already cut it and re-welded it because it was way too close to the tire. Other then that im going to leave the tank, side covers and rusty forks as they are, i love the dirty look  :)

Seat should be done any day, I can't wait!!!!!

Looks awesome man, getting to be a huge fan of the tuck n toll banana seat look.  How's the passenger leg clearance with those blinkers?

The clearance for the blinkers isnt too bad, luckly I have a slim/fit gf hahaha

ya the other bikes I have are keepers for sure.

here is a pic of it on the road, its pretty much done other then just a few small details. Rides great on the Firestones I have no idea why these get such a bad rep because there really not that bad.

Yeah - love the look of this bike, low and aggressive and still with a stock style.

I might end up putting covers on my forks, they do look cool.
