FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Thanks.  I got more good news today.  I got a call from Yamaha Motor Sports North America.  They chose the R1 I built last year as 1 of 10 finalists for the Custom Bike showdown at Moto GP Indy the weekend after next.  They pay for the tickets and give me money for travel expenses but its unlikely Ill be able to afford to go from Miami to Indy with the short time frame.

Basically lots of people enter.  Yamaha picks ten bikes for the Indy GP and mine was one of the ten.  They pay for some travel expenses etc, but I cant afford to send my bike to Indy from Miami in a week.  I have to call them back today to decline the invite.

That's an amazing accomplishment, and compliment.  Too bad you can't participate. :(

I wish to hell that one or more of the Big Four would follow the lead of Triumph with its Street Triple R and Ducati with the Streetfighter lineup.  For some reason, the Japanese manufacturers seem to think that just because I want a naked bike with handlebars, I must also want low power, crap suspension, and 50-100 extra lbs...

I'm trying to talk myself out of a Brutale 675 in the spring, but I'm not doing a very good job of it. ;)

Some updates: My frame comes back from powder coat this Monday.  I got the valve cover, clutch cover, misc engine mounts and the rear sprocket powder coated gloss black as well.  My head is a Blais cycles getting the seats cut, stainless valves, new exhaust guides and bored to 836.  The engine stuff wont be back for another 2 weeks or so.  This week Ill be able to start final assembly of the rolling chassis and electrics.  Still on schedule for Barber Oct 12th!

This is the cost of doing a great build - people pester you about it when they don't get their regular fix. :D

Yes, but I totally threw out the mount provided and made something else.  I used an aluminum pan and some square stock.  Ill take photos when I put it back together.

Thanks for the comments guys.  Glad to report got all 16 of the studs out without too much issue. My head and jugs are back and Ive got the cases primed and ready for final paint in one week along with APE stud install and final reassembly of the engine.
