I think I'd marry that bike if it lived closer. That is perfect. When I get a 750 that is exactly what I wan it to look like.

My '74 CB550 is more stock than not.
It's certainly not as gorgeous as some of the better-than-new restorations posted here, but it looks pretty good and is meant to be ridden.

The exhaust is obviously not stock, but works with the look.
The headers are NOS Dunstall's that I got still new in the box and the cans are from Dennis Kirk.

Tires are Avon Roadriders, but next set will probably be dual sport tires something like Anakee's or Tourance as I like to ride this bike on dirt and gravel backroads.

The highway bars/crash bars I don't think are Hondaline, but they came with the bike when I got it and does provide a little piece of mind given that I do like the unpaved roads - so, I've left them on.

Other than that, visually this bike is basically stock.
Hidden variances include tapered steering head bearings, an aftermarket air cleaner, and I eliminated the two piece brake line with the big pressure switch in the middle and now have a single steel braided line and a banjo nut bolt that has a pressure switch in it for the brake light.  The less-bulge-prone braided line does make the lever action feel a little more positive.

I've got a carb issue that I'm hoping to sort out this week, or soon anyway, 'cause Spring is on the way!

Here is my More Stock Than Not 74 750.

This is my personal bike, a 74 750K, just did an engine swap; pulled the original engine that developed leaking valve guide seals and replaced it with a fresh built 72 engine with one of the cheap eBay 836 kits.  Added an Andrews A cam, chrome velocity stacks.  The shocks are stock CB900F which are a little taller but the added height should work well for me as I am 6ft. 4in.  The wheels are Henry Abe which I just spray cleaned with aluminum wheel cleaner.  I love the raw metal look and have yet to polish out the outer rim.  Just buttoned it up today rolled it out and fired it up.  First thing in the morning, I will bleed the front brake and take my first ride.  The motor has zero miles so I will have to break it in.  Recovering from some back issues and looking forward to spending some seat time on my 750.      Stickman

Myhondas, the bike is a 74.  The tank and covers are a repaint where I was trying to duplicate the 75 Apricot Red Metallic.  Not an exact match but apparently good enough from 10 feet.  I am old school and like to customize or personalize my bike without year or model constraints.  Like the rear fender is a shortened 71 fender with 71 brake light.  I just like the looks of the earlier smaller tail light.    Stickman

The tank is from a 75 or later due to the petcock on the left side. Added to that the red paint, I figured it was a late (like 9 or 10/74) mfg date. A lot of bikes were titled as the year they were sold rather than the mfg date. I appreciate the work you have done on your bike. It looks very nice and I think you are doing a great job on it. I didn't mean to put you on the defensive as to your knowledge of your own bike. sorry if it came off like that.

Great looking bike stickman, I'd love to see pics of it on the side stand. I find center stand pics alwas make it look taller than it actually is if you were to see it being ridden if you know what I mean, have fun brearking the new motor in!

Myhondas:  No problem my friend.  Sorry if I came across as defensive.  Not intended.  I just know my 750's and don't care to make 'em my own if you know what I mean which does not settle well with some 750 purists.  I full understand that.  Back in the day, when we got a used 750 or bought a new one, the first thing we would do was pull off the stock pipes and slap on a shiny chrome loud header and rejet because louder meant fast or at least suggested that at a red light, change the air box to stacks, taller bars and a sissy bar.  Lace a 16 in. Harley wheel on the back then you were cool.  Now wish I still had all those take off parts.  The vin tag shows a 6/73 manf. date with vin# of 230.... and is titled a 74.  Thanks for the good words.

750K and Viktor.J:   Thanks guys.  The 900F shocks measure 14" center bolt to center bolt while on the sidestand and on the center stand it does sit high but more realistic on the sidestand.  I will snap a pic on the sidestand for comparison.

Like I said, I have yet to log some seat time to make sure the taller profile will work for me.
I believe it will but I can always put lowering blocks on to drop the height.

Have a great day, Stickman

750 K:  Here is a shot on the sidestand.  Because of the added height, I chose to go with an extended sidestand to stand it up straighter.  Bikes that lean too much bug me.  Take care.
