Engine loosing power intemittenetly

I have a recurring problem with my bike.  At random times my engine will surge once or twice, and then start to loose power (like someone is holding my front brake).  Sometimes it will eventually die, other times it will suddenly come back to life and run fine. ???  Anyway it happened most recently on Sunday coming back from the SOHC4 meet up in Augusta, I was getting ready to get off the interstate and it started to die going up the ramp.  After i down shifted it came back to life, I don't get it it feels like fuel starvation but I don't think it is.  ANY IDEAS?  I covered over 350 miles without a single glitch until that, and those miles included some 100MPH plus runs in some moderate heat.  I have less then a 1000 miles on the 15w40 Rotella in it, and all adjustments are right where they need to be.  Did the 3000 mile tune up when I first got it and only have a 1000 miles on it so far.

Any insight would be awesome.

Look at the spark plug deposits.

When my bike did that it was a loose wire at the points.

Travis, mine did the same thing also, my mech discovered that one of the needles was sticking.

Just thought I'd dredge this up real quick.  I think I located the problem, TT was right.  I pulled all the plugs when I first got the bike cleaned them, and just stuck them back in and said I WOULD get some new ones (but never got around to it).  Well 2, 3, and 4 had D7EA plugs in them, while 1 had a D8EA.  2, 3, and 4 looked pretty bad, had some grayish looking build up on them, 1 however had a nice brown color.  Well I put in a fresh set of ALL D8EA plugs and fired it up, it's already running better.  It even idles with the choke on, it never used to do that I always had to hold the throttle some.

So I think my problem is solved, once again my hat is off to you TT.

 I'm glad to you fixed your problem Travis. Now we need to go for another ride to make sure she's running the way she should.
