CL350 once warmed up, won't run correctly.
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:14:32 AM »
Hi guys, i've been workin on a 71 CL350. Hadn't been run in a while. Cleaned the carbs, new battery, put aftermarket universal 12v coils on it cause the originals went bad. Has great spark, Timing is spot on, valves are good, carbs are synched. Starts first or second kick, but after about 5 minutes of running, it starts doing something weird. It doesn't rev past idle. I'll have the throttle wide open and it sounds as if it's idling, same with half throttle, but as soon as I let go of the the throttle, it dies. But i'll kick it over and it'll start right back up, but the same thing keeps happening. The idle does sound a little rough... Any suggestions on what else I should look at? Haven't done a compression test yet...

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the reply. Was traveling for work. Checked diaphragms. Right one had a small hole. Replaced it with new, took her out. Same thing is happening. Man this is getting aggravating. Haha.

If it starts, compression has to be good. When it starts does it rev all the way and then only won't rev once it is hot?   You said timing is on, is that both fire and advance?...Larry

You said valves are good, any chance the gap adjustment is a bit too small?
