here she is, as i bought her in non-running condition.

i hope this is the problem.

scored cylinder, remedy? 850cc big bore kit, duh?

a few goodies from TAS and cycleX

drag bars installed,also from cycleX

badly pitted fork tubes will have to wait till next season for replacement  :(

anyone know if i can sync my carbs with this?

here she is as she sits right now, waiting on parts.
In the mean time i have wheels to clean up and paint, a headlight bucket to clean up and paint, a valve cover to polish, try to find a way to get the forks somewhat presentable, paint the motor, straighten the seat, remove old head studs and install new, dis-assemble the head for the machine shop, and get the wiring straightened out.
wish me luck, i hope i can figure out how all of this goes back together :-\

arrived today.  now i can disassemble my wheels and clean and paint them!

also arrived today!!!  850cc kit!!!  exactly one week from japan to wisconsin!  Amazing!

not a whole lot of progress lately, but some.  i have dis-assembled the front wheel, cleaned it up and painted it, polished the hub, and painted the center.  i am in the process of trying to paint the spokes for the second time. VHT caliper paint sucks BTW.  if this fails again i will drive the 60 miles to have them powder coated.  all of my lights came, LED turn signals and tail light and HID headlight,  my tires, spitfire s11's came. i hope the 120 on the rear will be fine. i ordered the exact same sizes that were already on the bike but these tires are larger.  i painted my stock gauges to match my rims, i also have a sigma bicycle computer to mount somewhere so i know how fast im actually going.  i painted the fork lowers, lost a fork seal retaining clip, maybe two.  they are quite hard to find BTW, dime city cycles claims to have them but mine are on back-order, after they took my money.  i painted the headlight bucket, i think im going to try to re-route most of the wires under the tank, not a whole lot of room in there anymore with the HID  bulb and wiring.  will try to post some pics sometime, if only for my own records.

On the caliper paint, did you use a primer before the VHT? A self-etching primer might help promote adhesion if that was your problem.  Looking good, do you plan to keep the flame paint job? It is kinda   8) ...Larry

the flame paint job is not my style, really.  but, i do plan on keeping it for the time being.  the problem with it is its fricken flawless.  not a single scratch or smudge and its a beautiful Harley pearl yellow.  the guy i bought it from worked at a body shop and did an excellent job on the paint.  i only paid $400 for the bike and i figure the paint job was worth at least that much.  i didnt use primer for the VHT  paint i figured it would add some extra thickness to the paint that i did not want. i sanded for adhesion.  lesson learned i guess.  powder coat next time.

Looking good!  I also have a K5 that is nearing completion for the second time.  I really like the rime powder coat and spoke color combo when do you think you'll have it back on the road?

probably not this year.  im going to need a lot of machine shop work that i can not afford right now.  need cylinders bored for the 850cc kit and lots of head work.  also still need to buy valves and probably a cam.  should be able to get it all done with my tax return.........in the middle of winter :'(

having some troubles truing the front wheel.  taking the advice of people whom have done it before i am deciding to use two methods.  first, i have loosened all of the spokes to about half threads showing.  i will then, one by one, remove the nipple completely and start it on the spoke and turn it 12 full turns, doing this for each of the 40 spokes. second, i will do this no more than one half hour at a time, no matter how many days it takes me.  i am determined to do this myself and do it right.  that being said, at the moment i can't do anything.  i have caught some strange stomach bug from my son which has completely taken my appetite.  i cant even drink water without wanting to vomit.  no food+no water=no energy. its a chore to even get out of bed. going on day five of this now. hope it ends most soonliest.  cheers.

Kids bring home the nastiest bugs.   Keep the paint job.

If those drag bars are powercoated you are going to have to remove the powdercoat from under the switchgear as the switchgear needs to ground to the bare metal.

thanx for the tip.  i did not know that.  i think its just paint.  i scratched it plenty while drilling the holes for the wirirng.
