Topic: CB360 Oil in Generator Cover?

Hi everyone I have been looking around this site for a while and had a question, I just got a 1976 CB360 and was just going to check the valves, I loosened the nuts on the Generator Cover?, im pretty sure thats what it is, thats what it says in the user manual at least, its about 6 inches in diameter with 3 screws holding it on, when i loosened it, it started to leak oil and gas all over, which is when i learned that one of my float bowls is off or my needle is stuck because my case is full of gas, but anyways there was a bunch of gas/ oil in there and i dont think that is supposed to be the case, if there is supposed to be oil in there than this is an easy yes or no question, if it isnt maybe someone could shed some light on whats going on, I hope its an easy and cheap answer

Its normal. Kinda sucks if your trying to set timing with a strobe light. Put a piece of wood about 1" thick under left stand foot, tilt bike to right a bit
BTW, this should be in other bikes.

You'll have to wait for another 350/360 owner, but I wouldn't panic. If they are anything like the SOHC/4's, a small amount of oil does come out when you remove the alternator cover. The fuel, well, that's another issue, but sounds like you know how that got there.

I get a little out of mine too.   Yours might be excessive from the gas.  Wouldnt worry unless it gets worse.

Just make sure you drain the oil and put in fresh after the oil was contaminated with gasoline (and, obviously, fix the source of the problem).
