In this day and economic times
« on: June 24, 2011, 12:47:59 PM »
Do you think some owners have unreasonable expectations as to what their bikes are worth? I mean OK we spend many many hours doing restores and lavishing love and money on our machines but at the end of the day a bike is only worth what the next guy will pay for it right? Here is an example of one here in NZ that I would say fits into that category, true I would love to own it myself but for the $9500 price tag and in an unrestored condition is it over priced?

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Holy crap yes, for a K6?!?!?

You might want to alert the authorities down there, looks like another crack head is trying to sell a bike.

It is still probably a $5000 bike here in New Zealand but I just think some people have an exagerated idea of the worth of their bikes.

It's the "eBay Syndrome".  People see a pristine KO sell for ten grand on ebay and they think that translates to the entire line of all sohc4's of all years, and suddenly think they're sitting on a gold mine in their neglected, rusty, non-running K6 that's leaning against the side of their house.

Also, a lot of people seem to think that they should get paid for their time when selling their bike.  They think the time they spent working on a bike somehow increases its value to others, when in reality the only thing that matters is the end product and the value/necessity of the parts used.  I don't care if you spent two years bringing the bike back to life and on the road.  If I can get another bike just like it, in similar condition, that was stored properly and didn't require a rebuild/restore for half of what you're asking for yours, then I'm not paying your asking price.

HA! Try shopping for an older Honda Civic.

For us in the U.S. these bikes do sell for more there and the exchange rate plays a bit into it too.  I would guess that may be a 5K-7K bike in Australia but 9.5K seems a bit out of line.  We had some friends from Australia staying and he mentioned that the 500/550 is not as popular over there so is that why the lower price?

i think less of them?everytime someone talks to me when they see my bike they say how you see 750s more, although having said that plenty of people have said how they had one once or new someone who did,i subscribe to just bikes magazine and there is my guess a ten to one ratio of 750s vs 500/550 for sale at least, two or three issues can be had in a row and no 500/550 but always at least four or five 750s.

The 500/550 was a rare beast in NZ too, a mate had a lovely green 500 but it was the only one in Hawke's Bay.
