My 1975 CB550 Bobber
« on: June 28, 2011, 01:31:30 AM »
Dont really ever post here but thought i would share my '75 CB550K in its many incarnations over the past few years.

The day i bought it off CL for $800 rusty, running OK and registered!

This is after the clean up, rebuilt carbs with uni pods, reupolstered seat, powdercoated wheels, lucas taillight, etc... Rode it around like this for a while, bulletproof.

A buddy who has several harley choppers convinced me to have a custom rigid/bobber frame built by some friends of his

Custom frame from the ground up made to utilize stock components, forks, electronics, etc....

And this is how it ended up many many months later after powdercoating, Polishing and painting the engine, reassembling with cadnium plated nuts and bolts, lots of scraped knuckles and swearing. VIOLA!!!!  Ride is perfect, the stance is actually not too low, and is comfortable for long rides and reliable so far. The best part is i am able to re-jet the carbs without even removing them, and everythings easily accessible. i always loved the look of old pre-unit bobbers and the newer japanese bratsyle bobbers, i tried going for something in between. Super stoked on the outcome.

Thanks guys! I'm having a set of custom 4 into 2 pipes with mufflers made right now, the open headers are too damn loud and i couldnit find pre-made ones that would fit the new frame.

yeah the mufflers were hacked off and given to a buddy who repurposed them, they werent really as nice as the pictures make them look. I will post pictures of the new exhaust system, its almost done. Its a 4 into 1 into 2, with a flat 4 into 1 collector underneath the frame that splits into 2. Ground clearance is the issue

I love it, looks more like a vintage style bike than actually a bobber or chopper. very cool

Yesterday I was admiring your bike on the forums and I liked it so much I saved the picture to my phone.  Then today I saw it at the Long Beach motorcycle swap meet and it looks amazing! Great job man!

Ive seen people do this before, but there are a few things that I have questions about. Like, Where in the f*** did you put the fuses and electrics? Im going to assume that you ran the wires through the frame but I dont see the relays, fuses and the like. I personally would like to make my 550 similar with one very major exception:  I would like to have the rear hard tail bolt on and have the stockish soft tail bolt on to the front of the frame... basically, I want to have 2 body kits where in a matter of an afternoon I can go from driving the chopper back to a cafe racer style bike (adjustable rake on front end) but the wiring would have to be modified for both....

BTW, Your bike is effing sweet man
