2-lead (750K3-K7) blinker question
« on: July 03, 2011, 10:34:11 AM »
K3s and up have a 2-wire front blinker.
How do they function with respect to the blinker?
I mean there's a feeder wire going to the blinker unit and another going from the blinker to the HB switch (and then to the signals).
The circuit is feeder>blinker>HB switch>light
It's not like a relay where the HB switch energizes a coil & the coil open/closes the circuit...

So is the blinker constantly cycling on/off and throwing the switch sends the pulsing current to the light?

The blinker grounds to the headlight ears. (through the bucket bolts with the green wires.)
One wire is for the blinker filament and the other wire is for the running light filament.
They connect to the left is orange wire, right is blue, running light is black.
I may have the blue/orange/left/right reversed.
See the wiring diagram.
the confusing part is both blinker wires are usually black or black and red.

My Clymer K1-K5 diagram shows green (ground through headlight ears), orange/white, and solid orange (or blue/white and solid blue). No black.

On my K5 I have the two wires hooked up to the orange/white and solid orange or blue/white and solid blue. It blinks when I activate the turn signal, but I have no running lights. Should there be running lights?

Yes, you should have running lights.
Sorry, I was going by memory. I'd go look at my K5 but I pulled the forks off yesterday and disconnected everything.
