Project CB350F, Day 1
1973 Honda CB350F: Four Cylinders/Carbs, 15K miles, complete bike

I picked up the bike on Craigslist, hasn't been run in 12 years and was parked for unknown reasons. The current goal is to prove the motor is good so i can tear it apart for a full rebuild.

Day 1 was not very productive. All four carbs leak severely and the ignition system is crap. I was hoping to not have to rebuild all four carbs before i prove the motor is good, but that may not be the case. Pulled/replaced plugs and the ignition points. Next weekend should be more productive.

Its good to see a 350f being rebuilt/ restored ,seems like u dont see many 350's being redone . Parts seem scrace on the parts for sale list,even on Ebay ,quality parts are few and bring a premium..  It looks like ur bike has agood start being basically complete.

It was a steal on craigslist but definitely got my hands full.  I think i am going to go ahead and tear it down.  I have not totally ruled swapping in  400cc motor.  I do have a concern for sourcing parts for this bike.

Finding parts for my CB400F has been very easy thanks to David Silver Spares. The only part I had real trouble getting was a NOS camshaft and finding an affordable original exhaust in good condition. However DSS now make a replica exhaust and webcam or megacycles cam sell rebuilt camshafts.

Bike is 50% disassembled, I just need to label the wiring connections before I totally remove the wiring harness. Current goal is to have the motor pulled before Labor Day.

Day 51

It took two days this weekend to pull the carbs from the rubber boots on the motor.  They were stuck on there good.  I was worried about breaking either component. Some gentle prying got everything off.  Unfortunately this weekend was a wash because i wasted too much time on the carbs.  Still trying to have everything to bare frame in two weeks.

Good luck on the rebuild. Just about got my 350F chopper/bobber style road worthy. I built it from 3 different bikes and it is a blast to ride. I'll be watching for your updates.

Motor is in the stand and the bike is down to the bare frame.  i will try to open up the motor over the next few weeks.  i go on an extended schedule at work and that will tie me up until November.  But i will plug away at it when i can.

I've been on you tube searching for clips of the 350's running just to hear what they sound like.  I've gotten the bug now for sure. 

If anyone wants to post a pic of what their 350 looks like please do.

I'll soon be embarking on this as well. I pick it up next week. Mine is running but doesn't charge the battery, fuel overflows a bit (one or more stuck floats I assume), and I'm possibly going to have to rebuild the front brake.



The guy who is selling it to me let me test ride it, and the ride was so smooth that I banished my apprehension of taking on a project and caught the bug as well. I'll get a project thread going once I've got mine.

Gosh.  I'm glad to see that my bike isn't the only one here that pisses fuel every now and then.  ;)

Just buy new float needles. If they are the all metal style, buy the float and seat.

I look forward to following everyone else's progress as well.  I have a few weeks left on an extended schedule at work, i just have no time right now to do anything.   But i will hit the ground running as soon as i get a break.
