A picture, actually two, show why ... my opinion.

This is the result of an accident that an acquaintance of mine had a couple of weeks ago. For no apparent reason the front end of his motorcycle gave way. He has no memory of hitting the pavement. He came to 10 minutes later finding himself standing on the side of the road. To this day he has no memory of the accident itself. The white spot on the helmet above the visor is most likely where he hid the pavement. His head had a large goose egg in the same spot; he also had two black eyes.

He's lucky to be alive.

Wow! Glad your friend is all right. I'll never ride without my full face helmet, hopefully this will get others to reconsider their helmet choices. Since we're on this subject a rider died Sunday just outside the enterance to my apartment complex, not quite sure how he lost it cause it's a flat clean curve. Anyway it just goes to show you never know how or when a wreck will happen, all you can do is prepare the best you know how.

Full face all the way here, can't think of anything else to wear.
Minor inconveniences for full protection from objects, falls, bugs, etc. etc.

a bird flew into my full helmet the first day i used it
looked like a 747 with flaps extended when he hit

I used to work in a hospital and can give you a number of reasons to wear a full face helmet. Accidents that patients could of walked away from, but instead broke half the bones in their face.

i've got a face shield that looks alot like the one in your post. came off the bike at about 40kph and it looks like freddy kruger had signed it. Always wear a full face of be prepared to live without a 'full face".

I believe firmly in personal freedom and choice. I choose to wear a full face and other protective gear.

I saw a rider come in with no jaw and his tongue hanging out where his chin used to be. Not a pretty sight.

Or you could never go outside of your domicile for fear of a meteor or other celestial object falling on your head.
It is all about risk assessment and management.

Full helmet for me thanks I had an HJC like that rode with that thing for like 6 years, now I upgraded to a Shoei that is very light. little rocks fliped up by trucks,birds,bugs,rain,HAIL,RAIN,wind blown sand ya full face helmets rule

Some years ago I was first on the scene of a single vehicle motorcycle accident where the rider had lost control on a bump mid corner (I deduced this cos the rider had just passed me and I knew the road and was wary of the upcoming bump) and slammed into the rock face. He was wearing an open face helmet. He later died from internal injuries, but man, I will never forget his face, or what was left of it. Had he lived, god only knows how he would have coped. The image haunts me to this day.

During our MSF course, we were given the stats on head impact areas. For motorcycle accidents in which the head is hit, one of the least likely areas of impact is the top of the head. The front and face are the most likely areas to be hit during a crash. If you think about how a person generally goes down, these stats make a lot of sense.

I should prolly add what happened to me. The only time I took a bike down was back in the eighties. I was riding two up and was just starting from a green light into an intersection after a drizzle had started. There was a parked car ahead in my lane, and I wanted to accelerate ahead of the car to my left. I hit the oil in the middle of the intersection and lit up the rear wheel. My passenger, who was eminently drunk, went one way and then another like a sack of potatoes. I held onto the bike and rode it down. It was a low speed thing, so all I got was some road rash -- with the exception of my helmet. It got a gash from my eye to ear where it hit the curb. I can still see that curb coming at my head.

As for my passenger, he went down, rolled, and popped up on his feet laughing.

ive had plenty of dirt bike offs,never replaced a helmet because of them,we all had some rough looking helmets but no head injuries,the scarred helmets were better than scarred heads,,,,,,chicks dig scarred helmets!not heads!

I posted a pic several years ago now of the helmet after the deer incident. It looked quite similar.
It was a high side body slam. Nary a bump or bruise on my melon. I'm a bit hard head my mom always said.

Only time I refuse to wear helmets of any sort is on a horse,...
