Hey guys, I am going to be doing a POR job on my newly dent-removed gas tank, and just thought there might be someone who wanted a video for reference, or to see how well it works with before and after shots? If there is interest I'll fire up the camera. Let me know!

SURE!!!! Why not?? How bad is the rust inside? I have 1 tank out of 4 that is totally dent free. Unfortunately..........it's the one with the most rust!! I would like to see how the POR-15 step 1 rust buster works out. I have read alot of the stuff here about rust removal ( The Works, molasses, electralysis, etc.) but not much on what the stuff in the POR-15 kit does. Good choice on POR-15 by the way......I've heard endless horror stories about Kreme kits peeling off. It could be from improper application but why is it always Kreme and not other brands?? Nothing sucks more than having your fuel system plug up.

Yes of course! Vids are awesome when it comes to projects.

I once bought $5000 worth of wood flooring, $150 pneumatic flooring nailer, and $50 worth of nails but had no idea how to get started until i watched a 5 minute how-to video from Lowe's. The floor turned out beautiful!

Find the right directions first.  When I did mine, I had three sets of directions through them that were slightly different.  It was enough to make me have to do it twice - pay for it twice too.

Just do the video already, no need for directions.  It will be much more fun to critique then.

I knew someone would ask.  Haha, wished I could point them out.  I did this a while ago. 

Best I can suggest is if you end up with more than one set of directions, allow lots of time between the steps and make sure, double sure and triple sure it is dry as a bone in the tank before you add the liner.  I let it sit for a week in the sun the second time.  That blow dryer stuff did not help much.  Then another week before I lined it with a second liner - my choice, I had extra.  Then another week before I put gas in it.  That might of been overkill but it works now, lol.

It is a mighty big project but if done right, it works well.

So, I will be getting my newly dent-removed and repainted tank today or tomorrow, and I will immediately begin the treatment, and will shoot video of the process, stand by. I got a couple pics of the tank so feel free to let me know what you think of my new paint job! The full bike pic is the one with the dents, I used the orig paint (the original paint as far as when I got it at least) as inspiration. The red was also a decal, and is now paint!

All the chemicals and coatings used to seal a tank will damage paint.  Be very careful.

I have taken a ton of steps to be VERY careful, plus the guy who painted it said if I really mess it up, he will fix it for free!

Had to wait because I didnt know how much the inside of the tank was going to change shape after all the dent removal, didnt want the coating to crack off inside.

Might want to mention that in your video, it is recommended to seal after dent removal but before paint.  I do all of it myself so no scheduling hassles required.

When I just looked at this post.....I said to myself....."Self!!!......shouldn't it be lined BEFORE the paint goes on??" And sure enough.....I was right!!!! If ya do the video....please be explicit when you show the steps to protect the paint. Very cool that the painter will repaint for free if the job gets botched.

What steps? Just tape the areas around the top off.  I've done a bunch of tanks with great success and I never had to mask the entire tank or take steps. Just don't be a dummy about it or accidentally kick it down the drive way when you let it sit with metal ready in it.

lol i knew someone would ask. No, however when I did my z50 tank I had the tank powder-coated blue and then I sealed it. I left it in the garage overnight to dry and someone (no one would own up) kicked it across the garage leaving really nice scratches on one side that are still there to this day.

Paint that has been on for 30 years is not the same as his paint. Just go slow and be carefull and all will be well hind sight is 20/20

So here she is, all reassembled! Ill be taking the tank off a bit later to do the tank insides, just wanted to share a pic of the new bike paint!
