Last few times I've been out riding, I've noticed afterwards that my oil tank is very full.
Almost so full that I worry that there is no oil in the motor. It also was full enough to cause some oil to come out of the tank - at the cap. The cork seal is intact and has a pretty good indention of where it conctacts the tank. I took the easy way out and just flipped it around. I have a new cork seal ordered. The idiot (oil light) light works - it flickered last week, so I immediately got 1/2 quart of oil in there. This bike is somewhat new to me. I have done all the routine safety things, and the 3000 mile tuneup. I have also dropped the oil pan and cleaned it and the screen for the oil pump thoroughly. I had the chain oiler all the way out so I threw about a quart of oil on the chain. That has since been tightened so that very, very little oil comes out at all.
So.... It sounds like I have too much oil in there ?? That doesn't seem right to me because at the last oil change, I dropped the oil pan, and the bottom of both hoses to make sure the tank was free of debree.
I put 3.75 quarts back in there.
Could I have a clogged relief valve ?
Sounds like I need to drop the oil pan again and see whats up.
Anything else I should be looking for while I'm in there ?
Do I even need to do this ?
