78 CB750 project
« on: August 05, 2011, 07:35:18 AM »
So here's the story.  I was going to purchase this bike from my neighbor as a project, but a better deal came along.  I grabbed up a 1988 RX7 instead.  A few months go by, and some jerk hits my RX in my driveway, totalling it out.  My neighbor's granddaughter has a soft spot for old Japanese sports cars, and her grandfather offered to buy it, so, long story short, He got a wrecked car, and I got a new project bike and insurance money. :)

Its a 1978 CB750 K8.  About 34k on it.  Been sitting for 2 or 3 years.  Fortunately, there isnt much rust on it, however, the PO decided that rattlecan black was better than the factory red/brown.  Put a new battery in and melted a green wire from the ignition coil down to the main switch (I think that is what it's called?)  So, to prevent further issues, I am going to do a ground up rebuild.  Likely an R6 front end swap and a few other goodies.  It will have a lot of influence from my old CBR600F1.
Anyway, on to the pics:
How it looked the day I moved it home:

How it looked after I got about 10 tons of acorns, spider nests, mouse turds, and general filth off of it.

It currently is completely stripped down the frame, except for the Powertrain.
Ill post up more pics as they are taken and as progress occurs.

Thanks for all the info I have found here so far, and hopefully I can add to it.
