just moved here to Minot ND about a month or so ago and found this piece....
I have been a lurker here on the site for a while now and have always wanted a bike that i could fix up and get it to look like the fantastic gems on this site....so heres my chance.

has a pretty sweet looking seat, sissy bar, and fairing......first 3 things to go....haha

I'm from Fargo, ND. I also have a 78 CB750 that I got with the big fairing and all that junk on it. I took it off right away, she's more of a bobber now. Going through a refresh right now with an early model tank and some other changes.

finally got around to posting an update. first off, that fairing, the seat and that sissy bar had to go. just looked rediculous, glad you did the same jaws!! ive never actually ripped apart a bike like this, so its new territory. im an aircraft mechanic (crew chief) in the air force, so tearing #$%* apart is in my nature. i think im getting some progress done. i have a long road ahead of me but its so fun. im not quite sure if i wanna take the motor off, kinda scared frankly, but it does need a good cleaning and id like to paint it. just not sure if i would be in over my head. but without further a dooooo...... heres what i have done so far and some finds along the way, like a messed up exhaust header.....#$%* happens tho. check out that tip that was secured to nothing but a clamp. and i gotta figure out something to do with that bundle of crap where the headlight should be... anyone have a headlight bucket laying around??

My cb550 came with the same sissybar, but the vinyl is in much better shape. It's in my attic. I'll sell it to you cheap if you want to retain the original aesthetic.

Looking good. I rode my bike with the fairing for a month before I took it off. Amazing what getting rid of all that weight over the front does for the handling. I was in the same boat as you, had to find a headlight bucket. and MAN what a freakin' rats nest of half-assed wiring I found behind the fairing.

haha no im good, i appreciate it tho. think im just gonna go ahead and buy one of those seats from carpy. i figured i would save myself some asspain with the making of a new one.

yeah, im gonna have to go through the wiring diagram to figure out that mess. any helpful words of advice??

With your technical skills you should have no problems in rebuilding the 750. There are many knowlegeable individuals on this forum that can help you or offer advice on almost any problem you can run into.

BTW .. almost 35+ years ago ... I, as 20+ year old, completely disassembled my 750K1, except for the lower end of the engine, and actually put it back together with no parts left over and it ran on the first try

Back then there was little technical information available except for the Clymer manual.

Have fun with old girl. I am now living my second childhood working on the K1 once more.

Also, I will throw in a plug for HondaMan's book "My CB 750 book". It is available through this forum. It is a great resource and covers most technical aspects in detail.

be happy it is not a GL1000 you are trying to rewire after a hillbilly bodged up fairing
there is about 4 times as many wires as the 750
trust me you will love your bike when you are done
I love all my sohc bikes and all that I have had not so sure about the GL1000's though I have two of them
not sure what I am going to do yet with my 750 can't decide which frame I am going to put it on got three different ones to choose from that is why it is not listed on my profile but I miss the engine and want a custom build

been a couple of months or so so i figure i should throw an update... went with silver and black for my engine paint scheme. not sure if i want to leave the frame all black or paint it red...i just dont know. i was gonna go for the flat black look of the whole bike but dont know about the frame....what do you guys think??

been a while so i thought i would give an update. Finally have a lot of stuff back on the frame. still need to mess with the electrical a bit more. Buuuuuut....i did get it started today. I turned it off then tried to start again but didnt get anything, no lights...no anything! sooooo gonna be going through the wire harness to see if there are some stray wires touching. anywho....
i have a video of me starting it up but not sure how to post up a video.

Looks like a clean build. Did you check your fuses? If one is popped at least you will have an idea of what circuit to inspect.

Yeah i checked it out this morning. Main fuse and the tail light fuse are toast. I dont have a tail or headlight at the moment so that probably why. Just wanted to get this thing running!

what the hell is this wire?? its coming from near the front chain sprocket. cant find out what it is for the life of me.

Looks like the wire that connects to the neutral switch on the bottom of the engine to me.

Look under the bottom of the engine on the left side of the engine.

Thanks guys! I got her running! Backfired a little bit but it sounds beasty! Now i just have to mess around with my seat pan, headlight and make my taillight. I like the tail light from Tron legacy, so im gonna try to do something like that. I also scored some aircraft grade circuit breakers that I was going to replace the fuse box with but those things are just too damn bulky and I cant fit them in there.

I'm having an issue with the tail light and all 4 turn signals. Tail light comes on when i turn the key but does not brighten up when the brakes are applied. When i put the turn signals to the left, the left hand signals come on but do not blink. They just stay lit. The same goes for the right side. Anyone have any ideas? I have tried so many searches and I feel like a ratard when i cant find the answer. So please give me some helpful hints as to what could be the problem. Thanks
