Battery Issues
« on: September 05, 2011, 08:57:50 AM »
My bike say for a few months-I had to replace the forks and it came down to time/money.

Battery about year and a half old, no issues before being stored, until I tried to fire it back up and nothing.

Got a new battery, charged it-a bunch of short rides the first day (a friend has never ridding him before).

After a rain day, I tried to start it and nada again!

Cleaned carbs, fiddled with petcock, spark plugs etc.

Still nothing-

I DID FIND OUT THAT ON THE INITIAL CHARGE OF THE 2ND BATTERY IT WAS POWERED OFF FOR A VERY SHORT TIME AND TURNED BACK ON...that doesn't explain the discharge of the 1st battery.

I have an obsession with these bikes and I have no clue what I'm doing...aahh...wtf...maybe I should try heroin.

It would help if you told us what bike you have. What testing method did you use that told you the first battery was bad. It will take for ever to charge a low battery while riding. You need a charger. Have you check to see what the bike charging system is putting out at different RPMs.

I haven't made that mistake since my very first post.

73 750

Both batteries sat on the charger over night and didn't take a charge.

I haven't checked the charging system, no reason to think it wasn't working the only day I rode with the new battery now I can't get it started.

I've found those batteries to be extremely sensitive to the fluid level - if you haven't got all the cells covered completely the battery won't hold a charge.  Once covered it will charge normally.
