Picked up another retro 750 , OUT OF ITS 4 YEAR HIBERNATION
« on: September 05, 2011, 08:00:01 PM »
I literally saved this bike from the scrap heap 8)  ;D.  As I pulled up to the owner's house he was getting ready to load the bike onto his pick up and take it to the scrap yard for salvage :o :o :o.  I had contacted him on a  a local site that advertises items for sale or swap.  He had it listed for 200, I called said I'd be there in 45 minutes, well I took maybe an hour and he was ready to load it up and scrap it.  He says it ran when parked and title is lost-the typical spiel but I don't really care as this is a great parts bike.  He says the title is available, I've offered him another 100 if he can come up with a legit title.

If anyone remembers I purchased another retro 750 special several months ago that had a cracked motor case, hopefully this motor will be OK.  if I do not get the title for this bike, the motor will wind up in the first bike.

How about the paint scheme? ::)   ...Larry

Nice buy. Your already way ahead if the pipes are good.Have definately seen a lot worse.May not take much to get it going, maybe a little 'air' in the seat and you'll be good to go  ;D   Are titles difficult to get in PA,we are lucky on that here in Michigan.

Nice find!  ;D

I like those survivor / period correct bikes. Takes you back to the 70’s when custom paint jobs and aftermarket parts were popular. Seriously, did anyone ride a showroom stock CB750 back then?

Thanks for posting up those pics.

Vetter and all those guys made a fortune back in the day on aftermarket 750 goodies. Now if I could just find the Guy who invented the King/Queen seat------POW-------- :P

Thanks for all the compliments and encouragement. The tank and side covers are definitely staying the way they are 8).   I, too, really like the retro bikes and plan to bring this back after I get the 400f done that is the present project. If I cannot get a title(which is almost impossble in PA) I will combine this cruiser with the other retro bike that has the broken motor case but a  title and make one good bike, and have a ton of spare parts.

Air in the seat is a good one.  I can only assume one of the previous owners was short and had some padding removed. I plan on combining the red seat and sissy bar from my other 750 with this Tequila Sunrise paint scheme.

I don't think there were many bikes that weren't made into cruisers. Back then I cannot count all the 750's that I installed mini ape hangers, 16" wheels, 4 into 2 exhaust, king and queen seats, sissy bars, windshields, Vetter fairings.

BTW, this bike only has 10,900...Larry

This is the seat and sissy bar/luggage rack combo I will use.

The most "old school" bike I ever owned.  Was a surprising good mannered bike to ride.  Down right pleasant. Auctioned for $2500 for those that think these are goldmines.

Nice old school chopper there King 8)  How long ago was the 2500?

I put a battery in tonight, everything but the headlight works ;D.  Shouldn't take too long to fix.  Also, pulled #1 float bowl, remarkably clean.  I need to replace the seized throttle cables before I can try to start it...Larry

Well, I cleaned the carbs(even though #1 looked clean the others were slimy green) and points.  Put in a good battery and replaced the broken extended throttle cable with one I had laying around, hit the starter and it fired up. Too late to give it a very short test ride due to darkness and a missing front brake caliper back half. The PO took the two bolts out and removed the rear part of the caliper then misplaced it. He is supposed to give me that and the title-that will probably happen when the government reduces the deficit and the local school board reduces property tax ::) ::)...Larry

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Well, I got to ride for a short period of time today-everything works well:  charging, trans, power band. Took most of the day to iron out the little gremlins, still have an occasional  leaky #3 float.  Plan to go on an extended test ride tomorrow.  I had to wire in another ignition switch, replace the headlight, clean some contacts.  Tank is being cleaned but I am using a tank from my black 750. Still waiting to hear about the title and brake caliper-I used the caliper from my red retro 750.

Take a look at the ignition switch, amazing the bike started...Larry

I thought that looked like a pretty straight forward bike to wake up.You can tell by the rust and other weathered items on the ones that have been left to rot outside.Glad you saved that one before it become one of 'them'.Now where is good old number 14 hiding at  ;D  ;D
