One of my favourite books from the late 1970's is "Hell's Angels" by Hunter S. Thompson, I enjoyed his writing style enormously, and learned so much about the history of the "outlaw" biker culture.

Sadly Mr Thompson died last Sunday as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Aspen, Colorado. This was probably a well publicised news story in the US, but here in Australia it didn't rate a mention. The world has lost another great writer for no good reason. Vale Hunter S. Thompson. It must not have received much coverage there since he died on Sunday, February 20th.  They have and interesting final send-off planned for August:

Terry,
Hunter S. Thompson was a very interseting guy..One of his best quotes was "I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me."

I am sure that he is having a good laugh today. I know that he rode a British bike when he was writing "Hell Angels" but he can be forgiven for that!!!

Sorry, guys, but this person was very cold-hearted-  He was on the phone with his wife and did the deed in the kitchen, with his 5 year old grandson in the next room and one of his own children (grown) there.  What a legacy for that child to live with for the rest of his life!

I guess you could say he was cold hearted.  But he was just insane, he wasn't right in the head. Obviously.

From what I read and heard, the whole thing was planned out with his family.  They all knew he was going to do it, just not when.  He had some kind of debilitating disease.   AFAIK
