Which years of carbs had the brass floats for cb750?
« on: September 16, 2011, 10:14:04 AM »
I have '73 CB750. The carbs I received with it has brass floats. Are the brass floats period correct for my '73 750?

Thanks - is there any way to verify which year of bike the carbs I have actually belong to? Reason I ask is, I purchased a K&L carb rebuild kit, and they are labeled as '73 to '75. Is there anything that would be in a carb kit that would be specific to those model year carbs? I don't want to swap anything out that doesnt belong, especially if my carbs aren't '73 like their supposed to be. Also, i'd just like to make sure I have the right said of carbs on my '73.

Sounds kind of like you may have a set of 71's. What size is the main jet that are in them now. All of the 71's I have all had #120's in them. That could give a clue. A 73 would be good with #110's. As for the carb kits be aware that some of the brass bits can be of lower quality than original stock Kehin goodies. I always re-use my old hard bits whenever possible of they are stock pieces.Just sayin--------

I'll have to look and see what size the main jets are that I have currently. I mainly bought the rebuild kits for the gaskets and float valve/seats.

So it sounds like the big difference I have to keep in mind between the '71 carb I possibly have, and my '73 engine, is the size of the main jet - correct? and the '73 would be good with #110?

A #110 was a stock size for a stock 73 bike.Parts fische confirms that. Now another question would pertain to what kind of mods your bike may have such as exhaust system, stock or other air filter etc ,etc which could alter that.
One note on those brass floats. Shake them and see if you hear any rattling. Also submerge them completely in water or better yet carb dunk for awhile and recheck just to make sure they do not have any pinhole leaks in them. The holes can be so small you do not see them. That is a weak point of the old brass floats, probably one reason Honda went to plastic and another was less cost and labor I would guess. Check them well.
