Hello everyone - thought it was time I introduced myself. I've been around for awhile lurking and reading. I purchased a 78 CB550K in April as a birthday present to myself. I had been looking for an old CB for awhile and the timing was right with this one. As a bonus it is a 78 and I was born it 78 so it had a nice feel! Got it for $900 from a guy in Milwaukee (I live in Northern IL) along with a box of extra parts and a complete extra set of original 4-4 pipes.
I have always loved bikes and I previously had a sportbike, an 03 CBR600RR but I sold it two years ago for some extra cash to buy a car when I switched jobs and had to turn in a company vehicle. I have always liked the old bikes from the 60s and 70s so I am happy I with what I found.
The bike was in good shape when I got it and I was able to find all kinds of information on this site by searching and reading to help me out. It is amazing the knowledge and information available here, you all are great, so thanks. So far I have rebuilt the front brake system, overhauled the electrical, completely tore down the carbs, cleaned and rebuilt them, new tires, new plugs and caps, hondaman ignition, cables and various other bits. Been riding it to work and around all summer and having a blast. Runs pretty nice, little rough on the idle until warm but no big deal. Wost problem is some smoking, mostly form 1 and 4 but it comes and goes. I am hoping it is valve guide seals.
Thinking about tearing the bike down over the winter but I am not sure If I'll have time, got a house project going too so we'll see. Not sure yet what I want to do with it exactly yet anyway.
Anyway - hello again...
Jason
