Engine Hit Story - Need Exhaust Stud
« on: September 25, 2011, 08:15:29 PM »
One of my buddies comes over to drop off a drill and a sheet-rock saw he was using and I was currently outside working on my bike trying to get everything repainted and slowly making progress. Well my engine was in my driveway drying from where I had painted it. Since I do not have a engine stand it was sitting on a piece of plywood stood up by a 2 by 4 under the front. Well us my buddies starts to leave he pulls forward and punts my motor 8 feet across my driveway ripping out the Dyna S wire and bending a exhaust bolt as well as scratching it up. I was pretty pissed but whatever he said he would buy what he broke. I moved it and repainted the parts that were messed up. Well the exhaust bolt was bent at around a 20 degree angle and I was trying to fix it. I heated it up and started to bend it and repeated the process. Well when it was almost straight. It broke.

Main question is how would I go about fixing it besides buying a new head and swapping them out?

I thought about trying to reattached it with JB weld since the area would be cover but I'm not sure if its strong enough to withstand the force pulling it straight out.

Didn't realize that they unscrewed. Got it out. Now I would like to know where to order one. Or if anyone has one laying around I will pay you for it. (1974 CB550)

Buy some 6mm stainless stud bar and cut the lengths from that, DO NOT use bolts instead as you will wear out the threads in the head
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
