Installed Marving Exhaust for 72 CB500
« on: September 26, 2011, 07:26:04 PM »
So I managed to run over my beloved 500 in July in my driveway with a runaway vehicle (long story).  I ruined the exhaust that was on it and the search was on for something  new.  I liked Benjie's system but was on a budget so it was out.  I wanted something different than a MAC kit too and I finally found Marving after some searches on this forum.  I looked up the Italian companies website and sent a request to find out who the North American Distributor is.  Low and behold it was a shop in Idaho of all places.  I live in Idaho so I was happy.

Anyway I got a hold of Monster Parts in Boise, ID and they were awesome to work with!  The price on the kit was WAY better than I would have guessed and I really dig the look and sound.  Here is a crappy cell phone picture in the dark for your enjoyment. ;)

Sooo, I'll be the first to ask. What is the quality of the materials, workmanship, and the plating? Any issues or trouble with installation? How long did it take to ship? Aaand... How much did it set you back? Inquiring minds want to know.

 Yes, more info please.
Can you retain the center stand? Can we see a shot of the muffler? Maybe a shot straight on, showing the oil filter clearance? How does it sound?

Is this the one you have? The H/43/BC?

Their website lists a "cbx 550F". Just want to make sure I'm looking at the right set-up.
 Or is it the H/331/BC?

The guys at Monster Parts told me that the last one they ordered for the old Hondas was the H/21/BC. The price is nice, too!

I'd still love to hear how it sounds and how it clears the filter, kick stand, etc.

But they also list an H/21/BC for the CB 500 Four. Wonder which one is correct?

Hi Guys,
Sorry I went AWOL there.  Let me try and answer some questions  ;D
-Yes my kit is the H/21/BC.
-It was less than $400 shipped to my door.
-It does not allow the oil filter housing to be removed without loosening the header.  :(  This sucks because it is deadly close from working.
-I don't run my center stand but maybe I will try installing it to see if it will clear.
-I will try to get some decent audio/video to let you hear how it sounds.
-I haven't scraped it cornering.  I am not the most advanced rider out there but I think I can get after it in the twisties and no problems so far! I measured 5" to the ground at the lowest point of the kit.  Which is better than the homemade contraption I used to have on it.
-I am very happy with the craftsmanship.  The kit didn't have instructions or a parts list which isn't too big of a deal.  However, it came with an odd bracket that I can't figure out what the hell it is for.  I will try and post a pic of it tomorrow.
-Shipping can be a bit tricky!  The distributor is a Ducati Monster specialty shop so they aren't to keen on stocking parts for 40 year old Honda's.  Weird ::) So if I recall correctly, they make monthly stocking orders to Marving in Italy and then the kits come over on a boat so from the time you order it until you get it will eat up a month pretty easily.  But that is still faster than ordering a kit from Benjie.  No disrespect at all to Benjie either.  I emailed him back and forth a bit and he was responsive and polite.
Thanks guys!
Here are a couple more pictures.
(yes my kickstand is bent to $hit.)

I want to run an oil cooler, which means using a spacer between then engine and the filter housing. Think there would be enough room for the filter housing to clear?

Divorces suck. I was away from the boards for many months due to mine. Good luck
Also from the pics that has loads more ground clearance on the right side.

Nice looking bike! 8) I see you are in Idaho. Would you be interested in joining the 3rd annual relay/rally? We could use riders in your area.
