Anyone in the Charlotte, NC area?
« on: September 27, 2011, 06:14:18 PM »
Hey guys,

It's been a little bit since I've been on the board; I've been incredibly busy. I've just moved here from NY about a month ago, and sadly I couldn't bring my K7 with me. In the 11th hour of trying to get 'er buttoned back up after a two year resto/cafe conversion, it was intermittently missing on two cylinders and the ship was sailing. Fortunately it is still up north, and I plan to sort everything out come the holiday season.

Just curious if anyone frequenting the board lives in the Charlotte area and could use an extra hand tinkering with their bike or knows of any "bike night"s around.

Kevin

Rock Hell, here. There's at least one other SOHC'er here in Rock Hill, plus plenty of other guys. In Charlotte, check out the Queen City Aces. You should be able to find plenty of guys and gals that will let you wrench and ride!

Well, i'm in Mooresville about 30 minutes north. I sold my 73K  and miss it a lot. I'm now in search mode for another, have started assembling parts and pieces but looking for a bike with a clear title that is not an arm and leg to start with. Here in NC the DMV can be less than helpful when it comes to titling a ''barn find'' or a bike that been sitting for years and no one has the title. Yea,the bikes are around here for $100,200...$500 but none have titles or the title is in someones name that is deceased and it's an out of state title.Anyway, just wanted to say hi and good luck with you bike.

I live about an hour away from charlotte. My project 72 cb500 needs some work......but don't hate. It's got a sportster tank
I can bring it down to charlotte. A few afternoons of wrenching and it will be ready for the road.

I'm about 1 hour west of Charlotte (Shelby) . My son and I started restoring a 350F but about a month into the project I ran across a 400F motor
for $ 125 and couldn't pass it up.  I have it apart and plan on plastiguageing the bearings today and get some parts on order. The 400 is going in
the 350 frame with 466 big bore kit and bored carbs.   You're welcome to come see the mess in my basement anytime you want too.

Bill, with regards to the lost title situation,  I have heard a lot of folks say it IS a hassle in NC . But I did it once about 10 years ago and it was very easy.
I called DMV and a guy there gave me his cell phone and told me to call when the bike was roadworthy. When I called about 3 months later he drove to
my house , looked at the bike , admired the work, and gave me some paperwork which he filled out and signed.  I took it to the tag office and paid up and had
a title in 2 weeks.  I must have just been lucky and they may have tightened up since then.

 Robb,
Sounds good,it's just hard for me to buy a no title bike, spend a lot of time and money in her and then for whatever reason the DMV wouldn't grant me a title.I'd really like to have the title issues settled BEFORE i start the build.
Thanks for the input and good luck on your project,i'll keep you posted on mine.

This threads old I know but I'm looking for a mechanic in or around Charlotte. Big shops cost way too much so maybe someone who does it on the side.
