CB550 Mufflers
« on: May 05, 2005, 03:09:46 PM »
I need to replace the mufflers on my 74 Cb550. The headers are Ok. The old mufflers just slip over the headers, no gaskets, seals clamps or anything. Is this normal? My bike is not running yet so I can't tell if there were any leaks.
Also, will  new mufflers fit my bike Ok as long as I get the right size for my headers ? My concern is will the hanger fit the bike? All the adds I have seen do not tell what bike they are for. thank you, Stephen

As its now an old out of date bike the easiest sollution is a four into two of for into one exhaust system for that bike. Try ebay or loud fast and ugly. Originals are still available if the bike warants it and you have deep pockets--complete set with brakets etc £350 plus shipping from www.davidsilverspares.co.uk (thats about $700 plus shipping and import taxes!!!)
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

I've heard good things about the M.C.S.C. 4 into 1 system from loudfastugly.com.  Not a bad price either, I've been thinking about getting a set for my '76 550.
