pulling carbs currently but other questions abound.
« on: October 04, 2011, 10:31:18 PM »
Ok so I pulled my carbs to clean them (pics to come) and will take them apart to see how the guts are tomorrow.

My other question is this: before I pulled them my bike was running at like 900-1100 RPMs and would die when i popped it into 1st and try to take off - thoughts on this?
*note: my number 3 carb was leaking out the overflow at a significant enough rate to call it pretty significant*

From the bike falling could I potentially have issues with my valves and or could my low idle be caused by my valves being too tight?

thanks buddies.

Need clutch adjust/repair.

Fuel contamination, cracked overflow tube, stuck float, stuck float valve.

Which valves?  Shouldn't affect intake and exhaust valve unless there are dents in the valve covers.

Carb valves, and jets (float) are another story as fuel and sediment got sloshed where it normally wouldn't go.

If yours is like most Honda's I see, when you pop those float bowls you will be amazed that it ran at all.  Most are a nightmare of fuel residue, sediment, corrosion, lugged jets, improperly adjusted floats, missing parts, cracked seals, and wildly out of adjustment air screws.  Press on.

I'll take a look at my clutch but I adjusted it a few days ago, I suppose the possibility is there that it could have slipped in the fall.

I'm going to strip them down all the way today and soak the carbs in some cleaner. I'll look for dents in my cover. I was just thinking too that the seeming lack of gas may have had something to do with my petcock being messed up as the tank dent was right above it... hm.
