Hi

I'm considering painting my CB500 engine with VHT Universal Aluminium paint. I would like to do this as soon as possible as its getting cold here in Denmark and my workshop is not heated. For the moment I don't have an oven I can bake the engine parts in. Is is okay to paint the engine now and wait with baking the parts for some months? Or will it make the paint less resistant?

Hello,

the VHT paint is oil, gasoline and heat resistant only after you have burned in the paint and not before.
So be careful with draining the carbs before you baked the paint.
From my experience it does not matter if you bake the paint after months, but you can let the engine run
on the center stand for 15 minutes in the workshop, too after you have reasembled the bike.

With VHT paint, you get the best results when you spray the paint form a distance up to 30 centimeters.
Spray thin layers, that's important, too.
