Petcock fiber washers: will these work?
« on: November 02, 2011, 10:59:20 AM »
Found these fiber washers at my local True Value hardware store. They're not metric so they're a little snug on the 6mm screws but I can either thread them on or drill them out a hair so they'll fit. I have no idea what the OEM ones look like but have read somewhere here that these can be used. But before I use them to install the petcock & put some gas in the tank, do they look right? These washers are the last thing standing between me and firing up the motor (I have everything else), so it would be GREAT if I didn't have to wait until next week to get OEM ones through the dealer.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

They look thick enough. check that the OD does not foul anything then give them a try,

If you do not connect up the carb petrol pipe and put a collecting tin under the petcock outlet you will be able to see if it passes fuel when turned off which is what the washers stop

I have used those same fiber ones on my 750's and they have been on since 2007. No leaks. Don't drill them out, but just thread them on. You want that tight fit.
