1976 cb550 paint question
« on: November 04, 2011, 08:07:10 PM »
I have a very nice 1976cb550 in candy garnet brown.  The bike is in excellent near stock condition.  I want to maintain stock appearance.  Due to some recent scratches on the right side cover, I need to have some paint work done.  The tank is in very good good condition, both paint and decals.  I have noticed that the side cover is a rusty brown whereas I notice no rust tint on the tank.  The colors are close but different.  Is this how it came from factory?

The brown faded on the tanks on some ive seen.  Can you post pics with photo bucket for all to see?

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

The tanks  get exposed to direct sunlight so thet do fade faster than the covers. Also, the covers may have been replaced at some point. I returned a lot of the color to my tank with lots of hand buffing and a good quality wax. Nice to see you pursuing a stock restore.

Has anyone found a match for this Brown?

I have a great tank and want to paint my fiberglass tail to be close... but have no idea where to start.

Try Colorite. They can make a paint kit to match stock. Pricey, though.
