Have any of you fellow Canadians been bugged by Yank tax services that promise tax savings even though your not american, you live in Canada and you don't really care what the hell president Obama is doing to the american economy I just had one and when I said but I'm not an American I'm a Canadian was informed they were licensed to work on both sides of the border, then I informed her that I was on a "No Call list why were you calling me? They didn't seem to recognize that. Interesting!

They are a scam on this side of the border as well. The IRS has little motivation to bargain if you owe. They 'might' consider an easy payment plan, but I see no reason they would lower one's legitimate tax bill.

Bob I suppose my complaint is about her spouting things about 401K etc?
(not sure about the numbers) which as Far as I know is specific to the states and if that's the case why would I, that lives in Canada care, it doesn't pertain to me in any shape or form, it seems another case of carpet baggers not Knowing their market ( you know, the yokels up north will think if it's American it'll be wonderful) I'm just a little bit pissed that they think/hope I'm that stupid.

You're right on all counts and yes, 401K is a U.S. thing, a tax deferred retirement savings (you can divert a portion, with limits) of your pre-tax earnings into a 401K. You are then taxed as you withdraw your money later. There's also another form, a ROTH IRA, you are taxed upfront, but withdraw it tax-free after retirement.

Pretty sad when the hucksters don't even minimally research their intended target population. Thank God for call screening and call blocking.  ;)

Interesting! Theoretically I'm on a no call list, didn't seem to make much difference this time though, if it keeps up I may be nasty to the person and their supervisor next time. Maybe I'll get lucky and create an international incident, he, he, he.
