Does anyone know any good/bad points on this model, it's a bit of a rarity in NZ and I have never seen one before, he wants about $5k for it.

Hello Hush,
        It's the last generation of the SUPER MAGNA w/o the Arlen Ness styling.Do you own a CB750F now? because I think that the 1st Generation sohc4 CB750 will certainly handle the power to the road  better than this nice "power cruiser"...this VF750 Magna is more of a Boulevard  straight line bike.It's good for light touring  & great midrange power & very nice "Custom from the factory" looks.
She's a real "head turner", if thats what you're after.I think it would be a good purchase for you if you could  re-sell it at a profit.It's a lot heavier than your CB750 & carries the weight a bit higher than the CB.I think of it as a pumped up version of the VT750 "Shadow" w/ a bunch more V4 punch.

Actually I ride a CB650PZ right now and was giving serious consideration to a VT750 if my partner can hold one up and ride it safely, that way I can keep my old SOHC4 and still have a cruiser in the shed.
This VF750 looks different, probably what caught my eye as I really like different bikes, the mystery is compounded by the guy selling it saying it was his late Father's ride and has sat in the shed for the past 2 years, I kinda like the abandoned side of it too. :D
I'm probably leaning more to the VT at least the later model as the earlier one had carbs and a chain drive which was upgraded to EFI and shaft drive in 2006.
I actually put my partner on a few VT's this week just to see how she would find them, they have a bit more punch than her GSX400L so I'm still not sure.

Nah it's for sale down South so unless I get some good press on it I won't entertain even travelling to see it.

Just been chatting to the local Honda dealer guys and they say this model is a bit of a pig, probably what everyone says about our beloved CB650's too Larry. ;D
I'm also thinking that Magna might be too heavy for Jaffa to use, I need a bike taht has enough grunt to ride two up out of town yet light enough for madam to use when we go Sunday riding.
I'm leaning towards the VT750, the later model with shaft drive and PEI as I don't mind fiddling with the 650 but having two basket cases in the shed would be too much ha ha.

Just saw this thread.  A buddy of mine has matching his'n'hers of this bike.  His wife is about 5'6" tall and she handles it just fine.  They love 'em - smooth and plenty strong.  His is black and red, hers is black and yellow. 

Other than the 'needs work' aspect, I don't think you'd go wrong with it.

Good luck, whichever way you go.

In my honest opinion a V4 just sounds awful in any type of bike  :o  ;D

You need to find a different Honda Dealer. The VF750 is not sport bike but it will make the rest of the honda line look stupid in both a straight line and the twisties. Keep in mind that it is almost 20 years old and soon Honda will quit making some parts but here in the US they are still pretty serviceable. The center of gravity is lower than your CB and it handles better than you might think. As far as it being a pig, go ride a v-twin honda.

I have ridden behind a friend for many miles in the mountains of NC and can attest that they handle quite well. The V4 engine is one of the smoothest engines you'll find on a motorcycle outside of a BMW or Goldwing. They say they are a pretty comfy one up cruiser but for two a backrest and different seat is a must. With a minimum of maintenance they will run for a long time. My 83V65C has 60k and my 84V65S has almost 50k and I'd take either one for a ride anywhere.

If you are buying it for your wife/SO, think about it. For an decently experienced rider they are great bikes but for a relatively new one it may be a handful. They are a bit on the heavy side and do produce good power at low rpms but the center of gravity is on the lower side.

I've never owned one and only have limited seat time on one. I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night too. ;D

Good gawd you guys must have a great economy down under.  Can you send some our way, no one is buying bikes much here in California, only if you deep discount it.   This state has the 2nd-worst unemployment in the United States, only Nevada has higher unemployment.   Here are 2 Craigslist ads for Magnas which by the are super cool-looking machines.

Keep in mind that doesn't reflect winter weather -- we've had the driest and warmest winter here in Silicon Valley on record.  We have only about 12% of normal rainfall and looking at a drought year.  It's been fanTASTIC riding weather here.

But too many misers these days, saving up for the end of the world or whatever.  I had a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 (v-twin) on Craigslist for $1750 and not one person came to even look at it.  23k miles top condition too.  Can't give 'em away.  Wish we could have your economy.

The exchange rate from AUS dollars to U.S. dollars is:   you can buy one U.S. dollar for $.0.968131 AUS.

So you get a good deal.  But you can't sell 'em.

All good I ended up buying a Suzuki S83 1400 Boloevard 2006 model with only 2000 k's on the clock for $9k.

Excellent choice -- 1400cc, that could keep you satiated for a while -- the torque. Must be fun to drive. Nice looking machine.

Always happy to "waffle" about bikes, I'm actually enjoying working on Suzuki's again, the S83 is in the shed with Jaffa's GSX400 and my son's GSXR250 in rebuild, if I count the two Suzuki Swifts in the driveway I'm pretty much Suzied! ;D
I forgot how much I liked the Suzuki engineering, I guess over the years I have had more Suzi's than any other make of bike. :)
