Seen it, bought, threw it away?

I know that it will not hold too much media and I have tried to make my own without success.

I built a blasting cabinet for around $35. It works great!  I found a blasting gun from Home Depot for $10 and used 3/4" plywood for the cabinet.  I found some cheap blasting gloves from harbor freight.  Let me know if you want a set of plans. They are a little rough, but I only drew enough for me to build it.

I have the 15lb bottle from Harbor Freight linked above by CycleRanger, I like it. Besides holding 15lb, it is very adjustable for blast. I use the lowest settings possible to do the job. Soda lasts longer.

BIG drawback is squeezing the soda past the little opening. I'm going to have a largemouth opening welded in. But once its full, it lasts a long time.

You'll need a place outdoors to let it fly, soda everywhere. But the wind and/or rain makes quick work of cleanup. I have a large driveway pad and no neighbors. Just park the vehicles upwind and go.

It all depends on the air compressor.  Almost anything will work with enough air pressure.  People on the forum have even made their own out of a couple tubes, air spray gun and a box of baking soda.  With a strong enough air compressor you can do what ever you want.  Cheap air compressor cheap blaster = waste of time and money.  Good Luck!

I tried making my own, but it sucked.  I think I want the bigger HB unit and get  the nozzle assortment they sell.

It all depends on the air compressor.    With a strong enough air compressor you can do what ever you want. 

yes, it's all about CFM.   Blaster needs ~15+ CFM @ 90PSI.

Picked up this one for under $20 http://www.amazon.com/Campbell-Hausfeld-AT1226-Sandblasting-Kit/dp/B0007D30DO and it did a great job with a strong compressor. The only problem is that the soda is so light that you have to keep kicking the container so that the suction pipe will pick it up. Cliff.

What size air compressor do you have? Any gravity feed blasting gun with soda = major clogs.  The  CH siphon feed gun posted by Magpie is the type you want to use and will work ok. It does take time to use because blasting area is small. I wouldn't recommend buying any tools from Harbor Freight but I think they sell 50 lb. bags of blasting soda. One important note is make sure your compressed air is very dry. That means make sure your tank is drained thoroughly, your hoses are purged, and you have a good moisture filter located as close as possible to your blaster. Have fun blasting man.

Thats EXACTLY what I used with fine grit glass media to blast my motor before painting.  It worked great.  I used about 1/4 of a bag of media for the entire motor.  Proper media is crucial.  I borrowed the gun from a friend for $10...  its worth 55 for sure.  I had to refill it about 10-15 times to do the whole motor, big whoop.  Buy it and use it.  Get the proper media for each given job and you'll be fine.  Soda blasting isn't the be all end all of blasting media.  People have been using all kinds of media for years.
