Harley narrowglide hub+cb 550 wheel? Possible?
« on: December 08, 2011, 09:28:36 AM »
Welp, I've looked all over the internet/forums for the past few days to find the answer to this question: can I spoke harley's 19 inch narrowglide hub to my stock 550 wheel? I've read alot about people using the stock honda hub and mating it to a harley wheel, but I want the other way around.

Thanks guys for any input, once I get this sorted out I'll prolly start my build blog.

looking at my narrow glide wheel 550 rotor wont work, running a harley rotor looks like it would run to wide for the stock 550 legs, an is the harley rotor compatible with the 550 caliper?   , but the wheel I have I bought complete little wider then the honda wheel. also have to call all balls an see if they  have a od bearing to fit harley hub an id to run the same stock cb axle

Guess I should mention a little bit more. I asked specifically about mating the harley hub to the honda wheel because I am using an aftermarket fork setup (yamaha r6). I've read that one is best off using a harley wheel/hub with said front end in order to keep with spokes. As for bearings, I already know I'm running a gsxr bearing in the harley hub to fit the yamamha axle. I just want to avoid buying another wheel and use my honda wheel =P.

The older H-D hub is 3/4 inch axle with tapered roller bearings, they may be on inch axles now. they use a 5 bolt flat rotor.

Thw bearing bores for the tapered races are in the neighborhood of 1.965ish diameter, if you are thinking of going to rgular bearings.

Lots of take-off wheels, just get a whole wheel.

Welp, what you said doesn't really answer my question but are you suggesting to just get a whole wheel that fits my harley hub?

Hd wire wsheels are drop center rims Honda rims are not, if you rather spend 100 bux on spokes and lace it up ..fine

..rather than buy a whole wheel for 100 bux or less..

HD hub is 'smooth' but it's pretty heavy and bearings/axle don't fit forks without modifications.
If you just want a 'pretty' hub, look at factory customs from Honda (even the 250 rebel would probably work)
I have a couple of HD hubs and  5 bolt rotors I was going to use on Yamaha XS650 but decided to use stock cast wheels instead (may modify one to use on rear though)

Ah, that clears it up. Thank ya 754-I was not aware of differences in hub styles. So then it definitely makes sense to just get a wheel. I rekon that concludes the need for this post, and begins my need for an hd wheel.

Thanks again~
