http://www.schottnyc.com/products/lifestyle/motorcycle/mens-vintaged-horsehide-perfecto-asymmetrical.htm

Anyone have alternatives to this jacket's style but with armor? and cheaper??  ::)

near a thousand bucks?no armour but about 250 buys a decent leather bike jacket like that, probably heavier aswell,i have a couple, one i bought for $40 used from a non biking mate, only worn camping at our bathurst race year after year, the other was new,,pics or it didnt happen?
40 bucks, this is my light weight one

i bought this one new,230 bucks it just an rjays but is much heavier.

i fold up and tuck the belt buckle into the loops,,i used to cut them off,,i still always cut off the epulettes.

I think the one jacket that I would like is the one that I saw in the first "Jason Bourne" movie. You know, the one that the girl is wearing when Jason needs her to go into the bank. If I remember correctly it was a brown leather with a gold flying wing emblem on the back. Since the first time I saw it, I always wanted one like that.

The Schott Perfecto is a crazy hot, gorgeous jacket.  I'd love to own one someday.  I ran across these guys a few weeks ago and dig some of their designs as well: http://lewisleathers.com/89

Especially the Super Sportsman and Super Phantom.  And the Roadmaster, but I'd have to buy a pre-war English bike to ride around on.  They aren't cheap, though, and don't have armor but they look well made.  Any English member have any experience with this company's products?

There have been a lot of alternatives posted here, most of which are not the same style.  If you're after the style like the original poster is, none of the others would suffice, imo.  As far as the asymmetrical/hipster style options that have been posted (like the OP), I still like the Schott... hands down, far and away, the best looking out of the bunch.  There are a lot of subtle differences to that jacket that just really set it apart from all the rest.  Looks heavy and warm and very stylin.

For decades I've tried to find a jacket similar to that red jacket James Dean is wearing in Rebel without a Cause.
Not a motorcycle jacket at all, but tips are welcome.

Alright guys I've decided to ditch everything, go shirtless, and sport these bad boys    ;D

Kidding aside, here is some criteria that I'm trying to narrow it down to: (in no specific order)

1. Quality leather
2. Armored (add armor inserts later? is this a viable solution?)
3. Maybe a tall jacket or buy a larger one and have a tailor take some out of the chest(i'm tall and skinny)
4. Sexy like the Schott
5. $100-$500
6. Somewhat breathable
7. Not too many zippers/buttons since I've read somewhere(maybe here!) about horror stories of zippers and metal fragments burying themselves into people's skin in an accident.    :-X

cool jackets. i couldn't find either of these on the web though. its jaminleather.com right?

The HG was a craigslist find...the other jacket can be found here

http://www.jaminleather.com/Cafe-Racer-Leather-Motorcycle-Jacket-Special-P2042.aspx#

Now don't be fooled by the unbelievably crappy picture on Jammin's website.  This jacket is the same one on the DCC website minus the patches that Mike Woulfe sews on it.  It's nice heavy leather with quality stitching and quality zippers.  It also fits better than the pic shows too.

don't like the "streamers" or whatever they're called on the cuffs, although i assume you could just cut them off. how's the fit? larger or smaller than what is prescribed?

They aren't "streamers' they are pulls but they are easy to remove, I took all mine off in about a minute.  It fit as per the size chart.

I won a jacket from Mike Woulfe at Barber's this year.  I ended up picking this one out.  It is getting the SOHC4 relay patch along with the SOHC4 contributor patch sewn on it.  I ended up getting this jacket.  I love the cut, and I saw one in person.  It is nice and heavy and robust.  I am a fan of brown, so it was a win win. not to mention it is made in the US.

I have the same one. Nice jacket.

Nice. I can't tell how brown the jacket really is from the pictures. Do you have any pictures of it??
Sorry mine is black. It is very waterproof as you can see I only needed rain pants.

Just for fun, here's a real vintage jacket, an Aviakit by Lewis Leathers, I bought in 1967 or so. Lots of patina and road rash. I think I paid about $40 for it. It fits a bit tighter now though. You old guys will remember these jackets. Also had matching leather pants but had to give those to my skinny nephew. Cliff.

I found my 70's Schott cafe Rider jacket (Brown, no buckle or exposed zippers) at an antique store for $50. It had never been used. It smelled a little musty for awhile. LOL

Well. my old one one might be cooler. The flask pocket on the front was sewn on as a separate piece of leather, the guy I got it from is demised. it is in Kansas at my ex GF's house and I hope that it is retrievable. The epalets had metal snaps where you could adjust the sleve length a couple inches, and were functionally metal skid pad as well.  It had become greyed on the sleeves
but looked shiny and newish  with murphy's oil soap.

I might just go  try to retrive it, it must be 60yo  by now.
