Well I popped into the hospital on my way back from a ride with SteveK0 this afternoon, and met Brian's sister and mum, ("mom" for my American cousins) both of whom are far more attractive than Brian, I must say. Brian was in great spirits, and was really happy to accept our first batch of donations.

Last week Sam paypalled me 500 English squids, and after Paypal took their cut (5 squids) and I converted it from funny looking play-money with a pic of some banged out old broad with a funny hat to real, fair dinkum Aussie Dollars it worked out to $738.12. I pulled the money out of the ATM, and as Brian didn't have change for a 50 in his hospital gown for some reason, and as I didn't think I'd get past his mum if I shortchanged him, I gave him $750.00.

Brian and Ev were ecstatic, obviously the money will come in handy for them right now, and they were both so grateful for your generosity, that I felt physically moved. they kicked me out shortly afterwards when I was paying way too much attention to Brian's sister, but they said I could come back next week once she's safely returned home, and the good news is that they're probably going to move Brian from the spinal unit to the rehab unit, which is a great step forward in Brian's recovery.

Brian and his family said to say thanks to everyone, and a special thanks to Sammy for organising all this, they really are just overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone here, and I gotta say, I felt really good being your representative and being able to hand your money over to Brian and Ev, and seeing their appreciation first hand. It did my black heart good. Of course, if there's no pic it didn't happen, so here's the obligatory pic. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks guys, I really do feel honoured to represent the forum members here who are so concerned with Brian's situation, and the experience has been very positive, just seeing Brian improving every week is brilliant.
He looks pretty bad in the pics, but his morale is excellent, and we all know that you heal much faster if your head is in the right place. The spinal unit is a frightening place though, so many people there and all with very serious, permanent injuries, it didn't make me feel lucky that I've escaped these sorts of injuries, it just made me feel sad for the patients and their families.

Sam, Brian's had the big vacuum cleaner hose sized trachea tube removed, and has a smaller tube in now, that's not as noticeable, and has been on solid foods for about a week. I didn't ask him about his legs, but last week he joked that he'd probably never be able to play lawn bowls when he gets older, and we ended up talking about trikes, and he told me about a guy he knew who raced an outfit with only one leg, so I kind of left it at that. I guess he'll know more in the coming weeks, and don't worry, as soon as I find out, I'll let you all know!

Okay, I've got a big ride on the Triumph tomorrow, (well, looking at my watch, later on today in fact) so I better go to bed. Have a good one guys, and thanks again, you guys are brilliant. Cheers, Terry. ;D

With Godzilla making his way down under from the NZ leg soon, I'm sure that Brian would get one hell of a positive lift if the Lizard poked his nose in for a visit to say "G'day Mate"

Brian had previously offered to take GZ to the Tas Nat's and the PI Classic if he arrived in time for a taste of Aussie Historic Road Racing.
It would make a memorable photograph I think.  8)

Ha ha, you can PM it to me if you like Sam, and yeah, if those thieving bloody sheep raping Kiwi's ever hand GZ over, (I mean, how bloody big is NZ anyway? It's about the size of the average Aussie dunny, and it's been there longer than it took to get around the whole friggin US of A!) I'll make sure that it gets a good disinfecting, (I'd hate for Brian to contract some weird Kiwi disease, like apple blight, or sherpies) then it'll make the pilgrimage to the Austin Hospital to visit Brian, and I'll post a pic here, of course. Once I stop drinking....... ;D

A bit late in noticing this thread, what with my move, and not having internet access for a bit.  That said, thanks Sam for getting this going, a contribution is on the way.  Also, a thanks to Terry for the updates on Brian's progress.

It is Brian's enthusiasm for sidecars, that got me motivated to get one of my own.  And while the crash pictures certainly got my attention, they have not dampen my desire.  I will however, in light of his injuries, be reviewing what armour I will use.  Ride safe, God only gave us one brain, and one layer of skin.

I visited Brian again today, the great news is that he's been moved from the Austin Hospital's Spinal Unit to the Royal Talbot Hospitals spinal rehabilitation ward in Kew, so he's definitely on the mend.

The Royal Talbot is just off the Yarra Boulevard, a scenic tourist road full of tight bends and blind corners that used to be frequented by weekend  (illegal) racers "back in the day". It was one of my regular haunts when I wanted to test the limits of my current bike (mostly CB750's and Kawasaki Z1's back then) and I have many memories of some horrendous crashes that probably caused more than one bike rider to have an unexpected stay at the Royal Talbot.

Anyway, it was just a quick visit as Brian was about to start his first physotherapy session with his Physio, Mark. I asked Mark when Brian will be up and running again and he said they'd be working on it, so while I really don't know if or when Brian will be able to walk again, I'm confidant that he'll be getting the very best of care available, and that's a great thing.

Brian said he'll be there for around 3 months, so he's still got a long way to go, but it really was great to see him moving himself around in his motorised wheelchair today, every time I see him he just looks so much better, and he's just so grateful to you guys for the compassion you've all shown, and for your generous donations at a time when he really needs his friends to close ranks around him and show that this forum is so much more than just a bunch of folks talking crap about motorcycles. Once again, give yourselves a pat on the back, and know that you're all helping a brother in need.

Sammy, you've done a brilliant job mate, well done, and to everybody else, keep digging deep, we really need to get Brian into a pair of long trousers! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Great stuff Terry.
Good to see Brian on the mend.
He's got a long journey ahead and he's got the fighting spirit and a bunch of great guys and family behind him.

Did you tell him that he's not allowed to have a swinger on that motorised chair.  ;) ;D
