Whoopsie...
« on: December 19, 2011, 07:03:45 PM »
The good: After browsing on what solvent/degreaser to use to clean my 750 engine, I decided to give turpentine a try.

Gotta admit the stuff cut through the years of oil and grease like a hot knife through butter.

I was aware of the strong odor and after a while, it didn't bother me. Overcoming the smell was worth it while getting all of that sludge off the block.

The bad: I work out of an apartment garage. I recieved a phone call today from the office saying that the next two unit owners have complained about the stench creeping into their garage's (why can't people confront one another anymore? The next guy knew it was me and I saw him walk by a dozen times that day  ::)). I appologized and said I will take care of it. The office asked what it was so I said it was concentrated Simple Green; totally harmless  :-X (I could see them throwing a fit if I said turpentine. Plus they almost smell similar).

So, what's the solution? I looked online and some places said baking soda to absorb the odor and them warm soapy water to scrub it away. I know it's a solvent so it's only time for it to evaporate but not so much the smell. Is there anything else out there? I think I took care of the bulk of the problem when I removed the tray full of turpentine/grease run-off and placed it outside.

Buy some bulk perfume and spray away?  Tell the neighbors you have hookers in the garage once in a while.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

lol, why is it always after I'm done talking, I think of something whitty to say? When the office called me I should have said, "yeah, aside from restoring motorcycles in the garage, I tend to my meth lab which distinctly produces a pine tree odor."

But really, that was the only thing I had in mind was to overwhelm the odor with another odor, lol. Eventually, it will smell like a candle shop.

Candles are an idea,  incense, ozium, and I hear that Denver has reasonable prices on legal medical bud.
