Where is key number on seat lock?
« on: January 09, 2012, 05:56:37 PM »
I can't find the key number on my seat lock. I had to unscrew the seat from the hinges to get it off. I think I need a new key for the seat lock, but I can't find a number anywhere so I can get a key made. It's a 1977 cb550k

Can i assume the seat is not from the same bike as your ignition key?

Should be on the face of the lock cylinder where the key goes in.

Sometimes that number is stamped in a very unobtrusive area on your seat lock;you may have to unbolt the latch post along with the seat lock to view it clearly.

If it is the same key as ignition take the ignition off. There is a number stamped on the casing

Key works in ignition, but not in the seat lock. Maybe ignition was switched out?

Did you remove the seat lock/latch post from the seat pan ? if you can unbolt it you may be able to better view the small stamped in number hidden on it...it's there but in a very inconspicuous place.
