Metalworking machinery
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:41:04 AM »
Just being curious, I guess.  What metallworking machinery do you own and use in relation with Honda CB?  Here is my list:

- Lathe Logan 210
- Floor Drill press
- Lincoln MIG

+ angle grinder, dremel, electrical hand drill, sander...

and this is my wish list:

- mill or minimill
- aluminum setup for the welder
- english wheel
- bigger lathe

What do you use/wish for?

A collection of BFH's...  :)

Bench-mounted drill press, vice, bench grinder/wire wheel/buffing wheel, the hand tools you mentioned, air compressor, sandblast cabinet, oxy-acetylene setup, ancient stick welder (not sure of brand).

Wish list:  small welder for misc stuff, more convenient than oxy-acetylene, bigger compressor.

754 - WOW!

I am scouting out for a mill nowadays, that's the next step but my ultimate wish is to work again in the tooling factory - http://www.polak.cz/  - you could get anything done there, those guys build replicas of Pedersolli revolvers just for fun.

leg vises are great!

i don't have much more than a Foredom flex shaft and a polishing motor at home, but i have access to the Toledo Art Museum's metals department where they have a mill and a variety of other amazing metalworking tools - welding, cutting, drilling, a HUGE blasting cabinet, forges, bending jigs, etc.   haven't needed to use much more than the sandblaster for my bike yet, though.

I know a shop that got bought out by the christian academy next door. Everything will be auctioned soon.

At least two bridgeports, several lathes, a few cnc machines, water jet cutter, optical comapritor, the list goes on.

Central Oklahoma.

If I may go off on a tangent for a sec, I have a quick question I'm sure someone can weigh in on.  Anyone have experience or an opinion about the Atlas 618 metal lathe?  I'm looking at a very early Mk. I model that supposedly works well and comes with extra cutting tools, gears, and the manual.  I'm not impressed with the overall cleanliness of the thing. I'm wondering what would be a fair price range might be.  I appreciate any input.

Do you mean 6 inch swing by 18 inches long.. not sure on them more familiar with the 12inch models.

We went to have a look at the stuff today, cant move it yet but gathered up bits and searched every nook & cranny.
My buddy is getting a universal  horizontal mill with Vertical head, a Victoria, I get the Clarkson Tool&cutter grinder.
Then we got 3 Europe made Boring heads, dividing head with nice 8 inch chuck, Shopmade toolpost grinder, set of broaches and bushings, collet set, about 80 horizontal milling cutters, and a few arbors, tapping head,  the blacksmith leg vise, 3 ton arbor press, and a bit of other stuff..

Best dayout of the shop we had in a very loooonnnngggg time...

I will keep you all informed about the sale, but there's everything anyone would want as far as that goes; maybe a month until it is auctioned.  Highest bid, including my friend's CNC that was new when he started there in 1979 or so.  It was his machine, period.  30 years since it was new back then.

Found the pic-  Proud new owner.  Only cost what it took to move it out of storage. I guess he will make some parts for someone that had it.

It supposedly had the software upgraded, it's probably 25 years old.

Besides a drill press and bench grinder, all my tools are woodworking.  Table saw, lathe, joiner, and belt sander.  All Craftsman, the newest is from around 1980, and the saw and drill press my Dad bought new in 1954.

For all you tool junkies here that need yet another forum, there's a good one for this.  http://www.owwm.org/    Old Wood Working Machines, although last year, they expanded to include metal working machines.  And their website is cool, too.  http://vintagemachinery.org/home.aspx

I think so, the wheels move the table just like a bridgeport, fully manual, I think.  I still haven't seen it in person.

It does 4 axis programs I know that.  No tool changer like the hitachi he has at work.
