Air Fork Conversion for 80' CB750K?
« on: May 24, 2006, 08:40:46 PM »

I'm putting a sidecar on an 80'CB750K and need to know if it would help the bike to convert
the forks to air assist? I've seen the tread over on the tech forum but, didn't want to rattle
anybody's cage by throwing my DOHC into that area. Besides, not only am I asking about
converting my forks to air, I'm also questioning if it would help the handling of the sidecar? Any
input from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

                                                              Later on, Bill

I'd of sworn that I put this on "other bikes" because it is a DOHC.

Sam,  I know the type you are talking about (like the old 50's BMWs) but. I've never seen
any for a Honda. So, I can only imagine that they would be quite expensive and I'm operating
on a pretty tight budget here. I just thought that, with the extra weight, maybe if I could
shoot a little air to the front and tighten up the rear, it would help it out. I appreciate the
response though. Take care Sam and I'll catch you later on.   Bill

The 81 custom 650 had air assist forks stock.  I would think the 750s did to. 650 custom also went with dual disks. Would help in slowing the xtra #'s.  Remember the triple tree is diff with the dual disk.
Hows the project going?

I have heard of people just adding the air valve and suchbut, I got to wondering if
there were fork seals that would be better or if it would be necessary to change seals I
don't figure you'd run too much pressure anyway. I'll have to do some checking on the
CB650 and 750s for the setup

As far as the dual discs go, I'm thinking of trying it on the 750 1st (for the sidecar)
and it seems to be similar to the CB650 setup.

I haven't been able to do anything else for now. I've got to get the 750 finished and
hooked up to the sidecar before I can do much of anything else. I need to finish this
750/sidecar to transport Jame's in style and to take some of the load off of my pocketbook
(from filling up that Van). When that project is finished, then I can get back to the 77'
CB550K project w/ the Comstar wheels. Take care of yourself and I'll catch you later.

The max psi was 12 I believe.   I have most of the parts for the 650 setup if you want to go that way.

Dannie, thanks for the info, definitely appreciate it.

Hey terry, thanks for the info and the offer, I may take you up on the parts. I do appreciate
it and I'll get back to you, okay?

dgfischer, Interesting about sidecar info in your Clymer GoldWing manual. It's too bad the
750 verseion doesn't have it also. I have several sources of info with setup instructions but, any
info, that anyone wants to offer, is appreciated.

                                                        Thanks again guys,
