Bad News.... Pilot screw fell out???
« on: May 25, 2006, 08:32:19 PM »
Well I think I may have found a reason as to why my bike is running so 'weird'. I just pulled my carbs to get ready to soak in the yamaha carb cleaner, and found that the pilot screw in carb #2 has dissapeared. I searched the garage and the bike for it and can't find anything. Now I have no clue as to what to do or what its gonna  cost me to replace. Any info is greatly appreciated.
- thanks
Calvin

Well I think it's the pilot screw.. Its the '78 carbs so I don't think they have an air screw but not sure seeing as I'm a newbie, but I think it's called the pilot screw. I pulled the others and I thought it was more but I guess its just a metering screw or somthin. I think I got it figured out.

The pilot screw is on the underside of the carbs, just outside the float bowl. It's purpose is to measure the fuel/air mixture for the idle/slow jet. Turning it in leans the mixture, turning it out richens the mixture, and taking it out entirely does.....well I don't know but I'm sure it would cause the bike to run poorly. Aside from the screw itself there should also be a spring, washer, and rubber o-ring.

Did ya get the carb specs I sent?

Yeah i got it.. Helped a bunch.
Umm I pulled the all the pilot screws out and all there is a the screw, no spring, no washer, and no rubber o-ring. Man things keep getting uglier and uglier. And just when I think I almost had it. Geez!! >:(

Maybe we're not talking about the same thing then. But you're looking at the manual I sent so maybe we are.

Pilot screw has a needle tip. When you remove it, the spring, washer and o-ring usually remain in the carb body and have to be coaxed out with a pick. Got a flashlight? peer in the hole and see if anytrhings in there
