Trip thru WA, OR, ID, UT, NV
« on: January 24, 2012, 11:24:57 PM »
I'm planning a trip from Seattle WA to Las Vegas by way of Boise then Salt Lake in June. I already have the Bonneville Salt Flats on my to-do list but would love some input on more stopping points and must do's. Thanks

Sounds like a great trip. One of my favorite roads is Oregon HWY 26 from Redmond to HWY 7 then on to Baker City, OR. it's a nice road and there is so much different scenery it's amazing. Then you can get to Idaho any way you want at that point.

BTW stay off the salt flats after a rain storm. Don't ask how I know this.  8)

WA Hwy 20 over the Cascades, about an hour N of Seattle, is beautiful in the spring. You could take 20 E over to Winthrop,  then you could head south to Wenatchee on 97 along the Columbia River, wind further south to Richland/Kennewick, then across the state line into OR, then the 84 SE into Boise.  Watch out for Deer!  ;D

+1 on Duanobs Hwy 26 in Central OR. Portland to Redmond.  gorgeous.
if you do hit Redmond, OR, take the 97 down to Crater Lake NP. Be sure to stop at the Deschutes Brewery along the way for a cold bevie. :)

Ditto on the Cascades Hwy tgo Winthrop, then turn SE thru Methow valley to Hwy 97.. this a canyon near  Yakima that is a nice ride.

Get to Lewiston Id, in daytime, you will want to take pics, then head  east about 20 miles then head south (might be 95 or Hwy395)  ,towards a place called Riggins, nice ride, from there head to I think Old Meadows, there you can take 2 ways to Boise, I think the east route is nice.  Bonneville is  a prettycool place

Logan Utah is cool, and it's hard not to stumble into a national monument or national park in Utah.

I highly reccomend the area in NE Utah/ Uinta MTS if you can meander that far. North of Vernal between Manilla and Antilope Flats  around Flaming Gorge  reservore is some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen.  Dinosaur National monument is too close to pass up once you are there.
