...I want to say 14mm, but don't quote me on that!  Your best bet is to bring a plug with you to the auto parts store and compare the fitting to the plug to be sure its the same size...

The Cb550 amd 750 use 12mm spark plug threaded holes.

It's in the spark plug FAQ.
The D in D7EA number indicates 12 mm threads.

thanks twotired, i was having no luck finding the info... my forum search skills are lacking.
i was browsing sears to see if they have a unit that fits out of the box, but they list only 14 and 18mm sizes.  are there adaptors to be had easily, or is a 12mm sparkplug hole a thing of the past or too rare for auto parts stores to stock them?

Has anyone found anywhere in the UK that sells a 12mm adapter? Or an online supplier?

Cheers

Knowledgeable auto parts stores can get them if not stock them.  The high volume parts movers won't care much for motorcycle bits.
I can't remember where I got my tester many years ago and there is no brand name on it!!

I put "12mm compression tester" into the google search engine and found these:

Probably can find more...

Might want to consider a leak-down tester instead if you have an air compressor.  I've never used one myself, but will be soon  ::)

Course that's for car engines, but it's basically the same.

very informative.... never heard of that test.  though i did find a compression tester at sears that had everything from 10mm-18mm adapters and compression seems to be good, ranging from 145-155.  i did get a scare when #2 was reading 100, but then i realized i had the throttle closed   ;D ;D ;D
