The motor's almost done! 




And I started mocking up a male mold for a new seat.  Battery is mounted sideways on the arch so no loss of suspension travel, and electrics are going in a pan I have yet to fab  I still have some shaping to do on the seat - I'm going to bring it down on the bottom and make like a curve down.  Or maybe a number plate idk yet.. I want the top flat and wide enough for a passenger but the bottom to be curved/beveled to break it up a bit and make it less boxy.  What do you guys think?

Also, I was thinking of putting these in the old handlebar clamp holes for my idiot lights? I'm worried I'll have to drill out a little? Is that a bad idea?  Otherwise, how can I delete the indicator lights etc. in the meantime? My wiring/electrical knowledge is like a 1st grader's at  best! haha

Did you actually run your bike with pods?
Did it have stock jetting?
If the jetting was stock how did it run right?

You sure won't want to run a NEW engine that lean.

It's coming alright - I fabbed a new electrics tray and battery box.  I really wanted to get the motor in this weekend but I discovered my "complete oil seal kit" was incomplete  I'm missing the three o-rings on the oil pump passages... so I worked a little on wiring and center punched the drill pattern I made on one of my rotors.  Worked on stripping and polishing the second caliper too.  I'm dead broke this week though so I can't afford the mat'ls to glass my seat yet  So I'm feeling two weeks but three is more realistic I suppose...

Yes, I did run pods before.  They were a pain in my --- to get tuned but I got them sorted pretty well by the end of the season. ...then I tore my accel. pump diaphram.  Carbs are completely rebuilt though!
My settings before teardown were drilled slows to I think 42s? (I did it per the instructions on hondachoppper so whatever that was), needles shimmed 2mm and 135 mains.  ...the mains seemed big to me but the plugs like them so I guess they're ok  ...I'm not gonna complain.  We'll see what she likes when I get her running again.  I CANT FRIGGIN WAIT!!

looking good. im  running pods as well, i had the emgo pods and they suck to tune i bought some old k&n of ebay runs way better. still working out my tune. have the needles up one with a 125 main. runs good at wot have a dead spot off idle need to get bigger slows and i think i will be good. i know the feeling about being on a budget it takes awhile.

Well I'm officially done with finals as of yesterday afternoon I'm a sophomore now haha!
So my budget will be a little better now that I'm working full-time again and it's time to get this beast back on the road!  I'm working on the wiring now.  Pretty much wrapped up on the headlight end of it, but I need to extend a couple wires to the new battery location.

I read in another thread:  One person said the ground should be as short as possible (i.e. ground to frame) and another said to ground to the motor (where it is stock).  I think I'm going to ground to the motor mount where it was before because I don't want any problems.

  I get through this whole rebuild and I lost a part yesterday... I have no idea where the effff the little bracket for the brake light switch ended up???  Oh well, it's minor, I'll make a new one I guess. I did search epay and found one for $22 LOL! Ya right!

Anyways....I'm buying oil for startup and fiberglass mat'ls today......will update soon.

I could've started her up last night but I forgot to buy an oil filter!!  Dang... I'm going to pick one up this afternoon and hopefully fire her up tonight!  Wish me luck!

All my wiring is done except I can't get the damn blinkers to flash  I bought a new flasher and it's not that.... idk what the problem is.  Maybe the problem is that my wiring diagram is for a k7?  some things are different.  Also, my neutral light stays on but gets brighter when its actually in neutral?  I have to search on that... Pics soon!

Picture Update: Sorry for low quality - my camera is effed so I'm using my phone...

I got oil pressure after about 20 minutes of kicking ugh. But she started first kick! It sounds really good too.  I relocated the choke cable mount because it wont fit on my shaved '74 triple, nor will my idiot lights w/ the '74 guage mount. Oh yeah, and finished my dual disk conversion! I can't wait to try that out! now I just need to tidy up the electrics tray, fab the seat, bleed the brakes, double check nuts/bolts, register and RIDE!  My goal is the middle of next week.
(And sync carbs, adj timing, gap plugs, check compression, etc. but that goes w/o saying  )

Well I kind of fell off on the build thread but here's where she's at right now.  Just rolled 400 miles on the motor today! (:




Stil have a ways to go but it's rideable for now.
To do:
New tires!!
Polish and wax tank, put emblems back on
rearsets
Elec ignition/coils/wires/caps
new muffler will be here early next week (reverse cone from cyclex that goes w/ my tri-y exhuast)
Finish the front fender - adding cr750 type struts/braces
finish some wiring (led idiot lights in the triple arent hooked up yet)
Finish the seat - prob gonna paint a number plate on the side to break it up a little and it needs a little touch up bondo and a better paint job plus upholstery
Stainless braces from guage mounts to fairing, although its not as wobbly as I thought it would be
anndddd I really don't want to chop the frame after my battery box but it sticks out past the seat a little...

Prob some other stuff too but right now its running like a champ!    I can't wait to get to 1000 miles and redline this B1tch! ....that's the rules right? lol  I haven't gone past like 1/2 - 3/4 throttle or 5.5k rpm yet.

I drilled them myself  Thank you though!  I made the pattern in CAD at work and taped it to the rotors.  I was going to draw it out w a compass but I wanted the pattern to line up w/ the (9) rivets and its pretty much impossible to divide a circle into 9 parts by hand lol.

144 holes apiece: 3 cobalt bits and about 4 hours

Thanks man! I'm pretty #$%*in in love with it too    I ride every day it's not raining (the velocity stacks don't like rain much). I get a lot of compliments and I've had a great summer with it.  But my vision is only half done... just wish I had the funds to do what I want with it (and another bike to ride in the meantime!). I really want to make it as fast as possible and handle as well as I can get it to - basically a track bike with a headlight. 

Couple more years of school and I can start building a stable  .

The thread kind of fell off as soon as I could ride but didn't really have many followers anyway...but here's where she's at now.

I really like the look of your bike and have a bunch of questions. I'll start with the fairing... What kind is it and where did you get it?

I did a little looking and found a rather large range in price and, as with many parts, they only list compatability up to '76 for some. Airtech lists '69-'77 which I found odd since I thought the '77 and '78 were the same. The DCC looks pretty close to yours and the price is pretty good. Anyways, next questions -

- Looks like your tank is unpainted. I really like that look. How did you prep it? Highest grit sandpaper? Polished after the sanding? How do you keep it from rusting? Is that a decal on the side or painted?

- Are there any other mounting points for that fairing other than to the headlight? Is it the EMGO fairing (label for those is/was just above the headlight on the cowl)?

As far as I can tell they're a universal part and probably all the same.  The one I have came w/ hardware that did not fit the headlight mounting bolts, so that had to be modified.  I also wanted it to have more of a forward angle without the headlight pointing at the ground so I had to modify the headlight opening as well.  Lastly I added two struts from the guage mounts to the last bolts that connect the windshield to the fairing and keep it from moving at higher speeds.  I also dropped it way down even with the bottom of the tank to have a better stance....it looked kind of dorky mounted at the normal height of the headlight...just imo.



You'll also have to mount aftermarket blinkers in a new location.  You can see two holes either side of the gauges where I originally mounted the blinkers but I bought flush-mount led's and put them down low.  I could probably fill the holes but I'm not that concerned...

Oh yeah - the tank is bare, yes.  It got some surface rust over last winter and I used a random orbital sander with varying grades of fine sandpaper and then polished.  The lettering and stripe is just vinyl.  I got it made from a place by my house for like $10 I think to see if I liked it first.  I'll probably polish it up again, have similar graphics painted on, and clear coat it this time around.  ...it's a pain polishing it all the time because it gets rust spots after a week or so - especially if I hit rain.

Thanks for the pic and detailed post about the fairing. The light came on when you mentioned that you lowered it to match the bottom of the tank. It was bugging me how the same fairing seemed to look different on different bikes and even on different shots of your bike! Now I see that you have a few pics before you lowered it. It is crazy how 2" lower makes a world of difference. I totally agree with you about the dorky look as the fairing gets higher. Stupid question - the fairing is essentially attached to the headlight so you can lower it because you ditched the stock ears and now have adjustable headlight brackets on your fork. Is that correct?

This is my favorite pic of your bike (I stole it from a different thread, hope you don't mind). I keep waiting for the Toecutter to hop on and ride into the sunset.



My next question is the same as Viktors. It looks like you cut the front fender a bit and got rid of that brace along the bottom. Any stability issues with that or is the small brace between the fork tubes good enough to keep things in check?
