What will happen if I run with no pilot screws??
« on: May 26, 2006, 05:21:31 PM »
I cleaned my carbs, slapped em on with no pilot screws and its running better than ever, but won't idle. Is this the only effect of not having the pilot screws in? It starts up fine so just wondering..

No, the other effect of not putting the screws back in is that the springs and o-rings will fall out and roll, bounce, disappear into a crack and never be seen again. Put them back in, after you make sure the spring and o-ring are present in each hole.

Your engine will not explode if you run it without them in, but it's not a good idea to leave it this way. I'm sure that no one on this board can answer your question from experience as having the screws in and metering fuel/air makes the bike run well. I haven't met one person who desires a bike that won't idle ;)

The springs are gone, they were gone since I got the bike in 3 of the carbs. Im going to buy the one replacement set which comes with screw, o-ring, spring, and washer. But that still leaves me needing 2 springs. What are the importance of these springs.. And would I be able to get them on their own??

The springs are there to stop the screws from turning from vibration. You should be able to find some at your dealer. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

What's the order that the screws go in... is it screw spring washer O-ring, or is it screw spring o-ring washer?  (I'm thinking the first one is right)

The washer is there to prevent the spring from damaging the o-ring so, yes, the first one is right

I had a spring disappear and I found the spring from a ball point pen works well. The ID is the same believe it or not.
