Got the brackets for the battery box finalized. The solenoid will mount to the left of the battery. I ordered a mount for it yesterday (got lazy and didn't make it) from this user parts place in Ann arbor .

Started on the carbs nothing moved, floats stuck had t get an ultrasonic cleaner. Got everything apart but the floats they are really stuck. I ordered carb kits and floats because I'm going to have to cut them out so I don't break the towers. Simple green really cleaned them up. Going to powder coat caps and bowls and soda blast bodys. Also have one main jet tower to fix. I think that I have watched Classic Octane cb500 carb rebuild video about 3 times to get up the guts to do the rebuild. Thanks Taylor!

Rich I'm the one who is 8 years late! Life got into the way for me till last winter. Thanks I enjoy the powder coating and got a pretty good gun from Columbia Coatings real nice to work with even though I'm just a hobbyist. I got the carbs all cleaned up then soda blasted them. I powder coated the caps and bowls and repaired the main jet towers. I lost one of the felt washers on the slide shafts so O ring of make one?

McMaster Carr is a good source for the industrial felt needed for the washers.

All put together just need to do a bench sync. I'm going to buy some stock air box boots and make my own air cleaner something like this photo. Oh and dang a carb set is heavy! Oh and a question the tubes that connect 1&2 and 3&4 and go off of 2&3 where do they go and what is there function , a vent to air?

Been kind of busy at work so haven't gotten much done. I did get slight holder for the license plate holder done and mounted and modified a harbor freight chain tool to rivite my cam chain link and put the chain back on. For the tool I sharpened the extra pin and group down an alien head bolt that just fit in the open end of the tool for a backer for the other side of the link so as not to push the pin out when upsetting the loose link side. Boy that tool is a crude casting.

Don't forget to rubber band the rocker arms up when putting the cover back on... don't want to bend things...

Got my tappet screws in and the new cover gasket from David Silver Spares it only took 4 days I think. The top gasket is from DSS and the bottom one Crusin Image it wouldn't stay in the groove and was slightly long too. I now have about $100 in 8 screws and a gasket!!!! Dang

Got the valve cover on (with the rubber band method) and started adjusting the valves only had a.004 feeler gauge which I broke bending to fit so I'm waiting far a correct gauge from dime city also some cu washers for end cap clamp and the 6 cover bolts that call for them. I also built a tappet and wrench out of a socket and 1\4-20 bolt.

Stealing an idea from RickTomas http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,183277.0.html  and building a semi stock air box . I got a used air box on eBay just the air box I have a new set of stock air horns so here is what I'm doing. I can't use the stock air cleaner setup because of my electrics box . I clamped the air box to a 2x6 on the carb side and ran it through my band saw cutting off the intake side. The board ran against the fence to insure a parallel cut to the back side. The cutoff was used to trace the shape on  a leftover piece of azek 5/4 plastic trim lumber and then cut out with the band saw. I used the router table to make a lip that would let the assembly slide into the air box. Drilled some corner holes and cut the center section out with a jigsaw. A piece of perforated aluminum will hold the uni foam filter sheet in place. An aluminium drilled and powder coated front cover is get to be fabricated. Thanks for the idea Rick

The level of organization you have for your wiring is erection inducing. This makes me feel ashamed of how I handle my wiring haha.
